New Year, New Vision online course for 2022

24 July Thunder Full Moon

Wednesday 13th July is Thunder Full Moon @ 19:38. Our Full Moon Meditation this month is Wednesday 13th July, 7.30-9.30pm UK time (GMT+1). This online guided meditation features personal & global healing and ends with an indigenous unity consciousness protocol. Cost to participate is £20, book here.

This Full Moon is the third of four consecutive Supermoons, and the closest encounter for 2022 having travelled to within 222,089 miles (357,418 km) of Earth earlier today. A Supermoon or Super Full Moon are names used when a Full Moon takes place at a time when the Moon is near its closest approach to Earth. See timeanddate.

A Supermoon is when the moon appears larger in the sky because it is reaches the closest proximity to Earth (known as the perigee*) coinciding with the New Moon or Full Moon. Since the New Moon is only a sliver to the naked eye, the Full Moon Supermoons are much more of a visual treat, when the moon may appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than on any other Full Moon occasion. Although it may not seem all that noticeable to us and of course it will depend on good clear viewing conditions; however due to an optical illusion, it will always look bigger and more luminous when closer to the horizon.

*The moon orbits around the Earth in an ellipse which takes just over 29 days, meaning that it reaches points in the year when it is at its closest (perigee, when it is about 363,000 km away) and furthest (apogee, when it is about 405,500 KM) from our planet. Those old enough might be reminded of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks when Angela Lansbury mentions the perigee and apogee in one of her invocations!

Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body.

If you are an angel fan, the angel of the Moon is Gabriel. See link for instructions on Angela McGerr's Full Moon Meditation with Gabriel. from her A Harmony of Angels Book, which is out of print and collectible but we still have a few remaining and personally signed copies via the Harmony Shop.

At the time of the Full Moon the Sun and Moon are in opposition. The solar (sun) energy influences our masculine/yang archetypal attributes (our outer world) such as strength, courage, identity, self-esteem, expression, conscious beliefs and determination together with our logical outlook. Whereas the lunar energy (moon) influences our femininely archetypal attributes (our inner world), such as our unconscious beliefs, hidden emotions, nurturing feelings, creativity and intuition. The Full Moon is a powerful and appropriate time to show gratitude for life and the riches and bounty bestowed upon us by Mother Earth (Gaia).

The Native American tribes who named each moon to keep track of the months and seasons. This is the Thunder Moon, so called due to the prevalence of summer thunder storms. There isn't a standardised system however, as some tribes took a year to be 12 moon cycles, whilst others went with 13 moon cycles. Similarly some tribes worked with five seasons per year whereas others went with four. Other tribes knew it as the Full Buck Moon, to reflect the time of year that a buck's antlers would be fully frown. Some American Farmers have adopted these titles so that they are still used today. (See article in the Telegraph for more on this)

Although the Celts were believed to have revered nature, the idea that they also had tree names for each Full Moon of the year, is neo-Pagan, having been introduced by Robert Graves in the 1948, which I find rather charming. So, according to Robert Graves's imaginings,The Druids, venerated all nature and to them this is the Holly Moon, an evergreen which reminds us of the immortality of nature. This Full Moon was also known by the Celts as the Tinne, pronounced chihnn-uh'; they saw holly as a potent symbol of masculinity and firmness. Weapons were often constructed from its wood but it was also revered for its protective magic. A sprig of holly can be hung in the home, or used as a charm, for safety and good luck. Holly water was created by soaking leaves overnight in spring water under a full moon, then used for protective blessing. I wonder if it was the origin of 'holy water'?  See thoughtco.com.

Other names for a Full Moon in July are: Rose Moon, Thunder Moon, Hay Moon (Northern Hemisphere) or Wolf Moon, Old Moon, Ice Moon (Southern Hemisphere). Names for the moon can also relate to the season, so this Full Moon could also be called the Thunder Moon, Hay Moon, Green Corn Moon, Grain Moon, Fruit Moon or Harvest (after the Summer Solstice i.e. Northern Hemisphere) or Old Moon, Moon After Yule, Snow Moon, Hunger Moon, Wolf Moon, Sap Moon, Crow Moon, Lenten  Moon (after the Winter Solstice i.e. Southern Hemisphere). Source = earthsky.org.

The time between any Full Moon and the next New Moon is a good time, energetically, to detox the body. I recommend anoil pulling technique, with coconut oil, which must be from a glass container for best taste.

Aligning ourselves with the moon cycle is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) and the New moon (good for starting new projects) is excellent for bringing balance and wellbeing into our lives.

For full immersion with moon energy join one of our New Moon New Vision, Lunar Cycle Alignment ProgrammesOur next New Moon New Vision lunar cycle alignment programme will run 25th October - 23rd November and costs £155.

24 July Guru PurnimaWednesday 13th July, being the day of the Full Moon in July, it is also Guru Purnima (the Full Moon of the Gurus) in Hindu tradition. The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima by Hindus.

On this day, devotees offer puja (worship) to their Guru.

The Sanskrit root "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes the darkness of ignorance is a Guru.

It is a day for celebration and worship, a day on which the disciples remember and express their gratitude to the lineage of Gurus.

Hindus believe that a Guru is necessary to make one understand the formless Divinity.

24 July Asalkha Puja dayWednesday 13th July is Asalhka Puja Day; a Buddhist commemoration of the Buddha's first public speech to five ascetics.

He declared the middle way, the noble eight-fold path and the four noble truths upon which Buddhism is based.

By keeping traditions and celebrating national festivals, as well as starting new initiatives, communities retain a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing. If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we hold monthly Full Moon Guided Healing Meditations. During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. Book at thHarmony Shop.
