17 October International Day for Eradication of PovertySunday 17th October is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty can be traced back to 17 October 1987, when over a hundred thousand people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris.  This was the location where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger. They proclaimed that poverty is a violation of human rights and affirmed the need to come together to ensure that these rights are respected. These convictions are inscribed in a commemorative stone unveiled on this day.

Since then, every year on 17th October, people of all backgrounds, beliefs and social origins have gathered to renew their commitment and show their solidarity with the poor. Replicas of the commemorative stone, such as one located in the garden of United Nations Headquarters, at as gathering points on this day.  The one in the United Nations HQ is the site of the annual commemoration organized by the United Nations Secretariat in New York.

Building forward together
Ending Persistent Poverty, Respecting all People and our Planet
Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed decades of progress in the fight against both poverty and extreme poverty. The World Bank indicates that between 88 and 115 million people have been pushed into poverty as a result of the global crisis, with South Asian and Sub-Saharan countries, where poverty rates are already high, being particularly affected. In 2021, it's anticipated that this number will rise to between 143 and 163 million. These ‘newly created poor’ will join 1.3 billion people already living in persistent poverty and whose pre-existing deprivations were aggravated during the worldwide pandemic. Indeed, the measures supposedly imposed to restrict the spread of the pandemic have in many cases exacerbated their poverty since the informal economy, enabling multiple folk struggling with poverty to survive, was virtually closed down in several countries.

World action days like this help communities to feel connected, bringing balance and harmony into people's lives. Harmony Healing utilises Ancient Egyptian Philosophies to bring balance and harmony to people.

The next one is on Wednesday 20th October at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT +1). Participants all receive a deeply healing experience. Cost to participate is £20 by online BACS payment (small admin fee added for PayPal) or half price to RSE graduates. There are multi-buy packages for regular attendees. Book at the Harmony Shop.

During these monthly sessions, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. And, most importantly, it's a step towards making a difference to the global predicament.
