21 Dec Wnter SolsticeTuesday 21st December is the Pagan Solstice @ 15:58. It's the Winter Solstice here in the UK - the shortest day of the year with just 7 hours and 49 minutes daylight. The solstice itself is the moment the sun is shining farthest to the south, directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, so the time varies every year, between December 20th and 23rd.

The solstice has been celebrated for thousands of years as a major Pagan festival with rituals of rebirth. Revellers will gather at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise on the shortest day. Then, here in the Northern Hemisphere, our days will gradually get longer until the summer solstice on Tuesday 21st June 2022.

Many believe that the traditions now associated with Christmas had their roots in Pagan Winter Solstice celebrations; including misteltoe, Yule logs and even Christmas trees. The Druids - an ancient Celtic order of priests, diviners, teachers and magicians who gleaned knowledge and enlightenment from ancient trees such as ‘Tutorial Oaks’ and sacred landscapes - used evergreen trees, mistletoe and holly (could the word 'holy' be derived from this) to represent everlasting life. Druids consider the cutting of trees an offence against nature, but would happily decorate them with colourful rags tied onto the branches.

In 2020, I was up at 5am a wonderful Winter Solstice Sunrise gong ceremony (see photo left) at the lovely Clandon Wood Nature Reserve, where it was raining on arrival at 6.15 but settled down during the session and was sunny as I drove home. On Tuesday itself, I will be doing some attunements for my Mindful Chakra students and probably going to the woods to meditate with Katie, my business partner at Harmony in Nature.

Celebrating traditional Celtic festivals like the Winter Solstice, helped Pagan communities come together and bring balance and harmony into people's lives.

Aligning ourselves with heavenly bodies, partiucularly the moon cycle, is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) and the New moon (good for starting new projects) is excellent for bringing balance and wellbeing into our lives.

For a complete alignment with the Lunar Cyce, we are running a New Year New Vision mentoring programme through the first full lunar cycle of 2022, detailed on this YouTube video. This course includes distant attunements to the Moon (New Moons on 2nd January and 1st February plus Full Moon on 17th January), plus a ritual with the elements on the Imbolc ceremony (1st February) and ending on the Chinese New Year of the Tiger (1st February). Costing £155, you'll find more about the concept, the attunements and the Vision Board process on the YouTube video and at the Harmony Website.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians, in the form of Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing, to bring balance and harmony. Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Level 1 - our next interactive training course series will start in 2022

Through Harmony Healing, Joanna offers a wider spectrum of events designed to nurture your welbeing. If you are looking for regular spiritually enlightening activities which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have our monthly Full Moon Guided Healing Meditations. The next one is Monday 17th January at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT). Participants all receive a deeply healing experience. Cost to participate is £20 by online BACS payment (small admin fee added for PayPal) or half price to RSE graduates. There are multi-buy packages for regular attendees. Book at the Harmony Shop.

During these monthly sessions, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. And, most importantly, it's a step towards making a difference to the global predicament.
