October takes us deeper into autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere, with the nights drawing in and the natural world moving towards the introspective energies of Samhain. Alongside these seasonal shifts, there is plenty happening in the skies and within the lunar cycle this month.

Among the highlights we explore this month are:
🌱 1st October – World Vegetarian Day, beginning a month of greater awareness around compassionate and conscious food choices.
🌿 1st–3rd October – Whispering Wood Wellness & Spa opening weekend at Horsley Estate, with a new programme of wellbeing experiences.
☄️ 8th–9th October – Draconid Meteor Shower, an unusual meteor shower that is best observed during the evening rather than in the early hours.
🌑 10th October – Ivy New Moon, opening a fresh lunar cycle as we move further into the darker half of the year.
🐎 15th October – The October Horse, one of the more intriguing festivals from the ancient Roman calendar.
☄️ 20th–23rd October – Orionid Meteor Shower, created by debris left behind by the famous Halley’s Comet.
🌕 25th October – Ivy Hunter Full Moon Meditation, with the Full Moon itself reaching its peak during the early hours of 26th October.
🕯️ 28th October – Isia, beginning an ancient Egyptian festival associated with Isis (Auset) and the mysteries surrounding Osiris (Ausar).
🔥 31st October – Samhain, marking the traditional threshold into the darker half of the year and a time associated with ancestors, remembrance and the thinning of the veil.
