  • Wednesday 15th January, Hindu Celebration of Makara Samkranti

256px 6 images Makar Sankranti collageWednesday 15th January is the Hindu Celebration of Makara Samkranti, which is the Winter Festival of the reborn sun.  It is traditional to wear yellow clothes and eat yellow food. Bathing in sacred waters, lighting bonfires, kite flying, dancing and offering prayers are also traditional activities over this festival, with rural children going from house to house, singing and asking for treats.

Most ancient Hindu festivals are observed according to lunar cycles, whereas Makar Sankranti is one of the few set by the solar cycle. This means it falls annually on the same Gregorian calendar date (14th January), except on occasional years (such as 2020) when the date shifts by a single day, because of the complexity of earth-sun relative movement.

  • Wednesday 15th May, New Moon & Roman Festival of Argei

150px Bas relief from Arch of Marcus Aurelius showing sacrificeWednesday 15th May is the Roman Festival of Argei.

At this ceremony, 27 Argei (human-shaped bundles of rushes) are carried counter-clockwise throughout the city in a procession.

In a ritual probably done as a substitute for human sacrifice, the Vestal Virgins then throw the Argei into the Tiber from the Bridge of Sublicius.

  • Wednesday 17th March, St Patrick's Day & Roman Festival of Liberalia

St Patricks Day used 2021Wednesday 17th March is St Patrick’s Day in Eire (Ireland).

St Patrick is credited with converting the Irish back to Christianity which had been abandoned under Roman rule.

Saint Patrick is said to have used the Shamrock (three leaved clover) as a metaphor for the Christian Trinity.

Apparently, the name shamrock comes from the Irish word seamróg, which is derived from the Irish word for clover (seamair) and means simply "little clover" or "young clover".

Our Irish Shamrock was created by Antonia Skelton for Harmony Healing.

Liberalia 17 MarchWednesday 17th March was also Liberalia, the Ancient Roman Festival to celebrate the male coming of age!

In view of the statement above that Christianity had been abandoned under Roman rule, I wonder if there is a connection that when Eire re-converted to Christianity they chose the day of the male coming of age as their date of celebration...

Liberalia was the Roman Feast of Liber Pater (God of wine and fertility, especially seeds) and his consort Libera, and was held three days after the Ides of March (15th).

The day was celebrated with ribald songs, processions of priests and elder priestesses - adorned with Ivy - and sacrifices, with masks being hung on trees.

Young Roman boys were given a lucky charm by their parents called a bulla praetexta, generally made of gold or leather, which was hung around their necks to ward off evil spirits.

When boys reached puberty (usually aged 14-16) this amulet would be removed and often placed on an altar dedicated to the Lares(Deities protecting the household and family), together with either a lock of the boy's hair or stubble from his first shave. Subsequently mothers' would retrieve them and keep them safe out of superstition, and they would be used for protection if the son was ever in public office or in a role involving any danger.

Later in the ceremony the rites of passage would continue with the fathers' taking their sons to the Forum to be presented as adult citizens, now with full adult rites including eligibilty to vote (if he met the statutory requirements of the time) and the authority to wear the pure white adult toga, as well as to marry.

By keeping traditions, communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life.

Two new interactive mentoring courses series started this month with Mindful Chakra Balancing & Unity Consciousness on Tuesday evenings on 11th March and Essene Angelology on Thursday evenings commencing 16th March. These modules are £66 each, late starts accommodated.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the nextvirtual healing circle later this month  on  Sunday 28th March, at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £20 (+ £2 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

If you would like to experience one of our spiritual offerings (meditation, reading, 1:1 healing, a Forest Bathing+ session or a full mentoring course), why not ask for a Harmony Healing gift voucherfor a birthday or other celebratory occasion?

A number of virtual courses are now ready, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

  • Wednesday 18th August, Egyptian Feast of Wagy

18 August Egyptian Feast of WagiWednesday 18th August is the Egyptian Feast of Wagy.

Taking place seventeen days after the Egyptian celebrations of New Year's Day, there was the more sombre feast of Wagy, when families paid respect to their ancestors.

They came to the tombs of the deceased, with offerings, performing rituals, specifically "fumigations" - producing fumes - smoke.

The ceremonies were often followed by a funerary meal.

By keeping traditions, ancient communities in Egypt retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Violet Flame promoHarmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians to bring balance and harmony. If you are interested in Ancient Egypt, my Violet Flame of Amentiinteractive evening course runs for three consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning 21st September, £88 including a healing attunement. 75% reduction to anyone who has studied RSE 1 or Violet Flame before.

  • Wednesday 28th April, Roman Festival of Floralia

Floralia 28th AprilWednesday 28th April was the Roman fertility festival of flowers and crops called Floralia, that later developed into a celebration of sexuality, and may have influenced the subsequent celebrations for Beltane and May Day. Or it could have been the other way around...

According to Pliny (circa 240 BCE), celebrations were to solicit protection from the Goddess Flora, associated with flowers, blossoming plants and fertility.

The festival lasted for six days and incorporated Ludi Florae, the "Games of Flora". The revelry was much enjoyed by Plebeian members of Roman society and seems to have involved actresses performing naked as well as other racy behaviour. Brightly coloured clothes were worn (if any!), races and shows were performed.

Symbols of fertility such as deer and hares were let loose in the Circus Maximus to honour the Goddess as protector of fields and gardens (but not wild animals or woods) and, colourful garments were worn, rater than the customary white, during the festivities, some of which were nocturnal. Chickpeas (another symbol of fertility, also known as garbanzo beans) also were thrown to the Circus audience.

Thanks also to resource page on Floralia at penelope.uchicago.edu (not hyperlinked as it's an 'insecure' site).

By keeping traditions, Roman communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Joanna's Harmony Healing activities - not involving any naked plays - are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. The next RSE 1 module series starts 14th May with Violet Flame of Amenti and 17th May with Chakra Balancing, Axiatonal Alignment and Unity Consciousness.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities following lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the next virtual healing circle on Wednesday 26th May at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT+1), and costs £20 (+ £2 Paypal fee). • Wednesday 5th May, first of three dates with 555 Numerology

555 numerologyWednesday 5th May is a primary 555 in numerology.2021 is a '5' year in numerology (2+0+2+1 = 5), May is the 5th month and today is the 5th day of the month, so this is a primary 555 as each component of the month adds up to 5.

Friday 14th & Sunday 23rd May will carry secondary 5:5:5 energy as the components of these dates also add up to 5.

    What is Numerology?
Numerology is the study of the symbolism of numbers.

As well determining aspects of your personality and life purpose from the analysis of your birthdate, together with the encoded numbers in the letters of your name, it is also a science attributing meaning and significance to what could appear as random numbers observed in your environment and/or happening globally.

Digits of higher numbers are added together until a single digit is reached.

What is the Numerology of the Number 5?
In numerology, the number 5 can be said to denote adventure, change, motion, travel, freedom, exploration, variety, sensuality, being unattached (to outcomes), curiosity, experience, periodicity, knowledge seeker and teacher, imaginative, child-like and playful. With the highs that come with these attributes, 5s also carry instability and unpredictability, and radical changes.

The spiritual meaning of 5 draws our attention to the wonder of life, and beckons us to appreciate the perception of chaos all around us. 5 has wild vibrations: primitive and erratic. It is said that when 5 pops into your life, be prepared for some action, like a journey, which can be physical or meditative.  It’s certainly an amazing number on which to meditate.

The number 5 is the most dynamic and energetic of all the single-digit numbers. It is unpredictable, always in motion and constantly in need of change. Although it comprises an almost equal mix of masculine and feminine qualities, in general it is slightly more feminine, though certainly not demure or submissive.  In Indian Vedic lore it is ruled by Mercury and denotes intellect.

However, the most important meaning of the number 5 is 'Expansion' especially with regard to personal cellular vibration.  5 is the number of harmony, balance and divine grace.

Examples of Sets of Five in Every Day Life
Since nature is comprised of the 5 elements earth, air, fire, water and spirit/ether (or in the Chinese system, earth, fire, water, metal and wood) the number 5 can also be seen as a manifestation of nature itself and even God/the Creator.

5 features in human design, we have five identified senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch) and 5 digits at the end of each limb.

The 5th dimension is the term used to describe the spiritual plane accessible to psychics, mediums and healers but illusive to the average person in the street.

    555 23 MayThe Platonic Solids
There are also 5 platonic solids, identified around 360 BCE by the philosopher Plato hence the name.

Each solid comprises a three dimensional geometric shape of identically shaped regular polygons each meeting at the same three-dimensional angles.

    1.Tetrahedron - 4 x equilateral triangle faces and represents the element fire;
    2. Hexahedron (cube) - 6 x square faces and represents the element earth;
    3. Octahedron - 8 x equilateral triangle faces and represents the element air;
    4. Dodecahedron - 12 x pentagonal faces and represents the element spirit;
    5. Icosahedron - 20 x equilateral triangle faces and represents the element water.

The Ancient Egyptians Thoughts on the Number Five
The Ancient Egyptians (who called their land ‘Khem’ or ‘Khemit’ so are best described as Khemitians), used the 5-pointed star or ‘microcosm’ to represent man as a miniature replica of God.  Interestingly, the Khemitian name for God was Neter, from which our word nature is probably derived.

The 5-pointed star was their symbol for destiny as well as the number 5 itself. The ideal of the ‘realised’ man was to become a star; ‘to become one of the company of Ra’ in the sky, 5-pointed stars were the homes of departed souls.

The Khemitians also used the 5-pointed star to represent the five stages of the sun during the day and the five stages of life: Dawn was known as Kheper (scarab = birth/rebirth), high noon known as Ra (Inner Child), the afternoon sun was Oon (the Scholar), full afternoon sun Aten (the Wisdom Keeper) and finally at dusk Amen (the hidden or veil).

Herodotus wrote, around the 5th Century BC: Of all the nations of the world, the Khemitians are the happiest, healthiest and most religious.

This was attributed to their holistic view of man as a function of the Cosmos; they saw it as essential to be in tune with metaphysical realities in their daily lives.  The complex vibrations of the body were a reflection of the rhythms, harmonies and pulsations of the universe.  When out of tune, the body would display disease.  To heal a person, it was necessary to use magic to summon the healing harmonic phenomena.

The Khemitians believed that man was created in the image of God and embodied all living creatures.  All aspects of nature, such as colours, crystals, animals, plants etc. had counterparts within man.  Man’s body was his temple; and the rite of self-perfection was his soul purpose and ultimate destiny.

They also understood that if man was a microcosm of the universe, then all aspects of man would manifest on a magnified scale within the universe; in other words the universe was a macrocosm of man.  The Emerald Tablets, attributed to Djetuti (also called Tehuti, Thoth, Hermes and Mercury at various historical junctures, with the Greek version Hermes Trismegistus giving us the term Hermetic Philosophies) details how everything we see is a representation of what we don't see - As Above, So Below - with man being a 'Microcosm' or miniature replica of the 'Macrocosm' being the All.

Thus we are intimately connected with everything. Our individual actions cause reactions in the macrocosm and activities in the greater universe/stars manifest within us.  Physical functions of body parts were seen as manifestations of cosmic functions and particular attributes with specified planets.

There was a strong astrological element too, with medicines being administered at specified times to coincide with astrological influences.  Operations were timed to take advantage of beneficial cosmic rhythms using colours, metals and numbers as manipulative tools.  Hekau (mantras) would be invoked, with music and sound being used to create appropriate vibrational enhancements.  Incantations and chanting created controlled influences on the affected organs.  The correct pronunciation of Hekau or Neteru (the plural of Neter) could oust incompatible energies which were causing discomfort and recalibrate the cellular vibration to a more harmonious setting.

The Ancient Greeks Thoughts on the Number Five
5 was the sacred number of the Pythagoreans and members of the brotherhood were sworn to secrecy on pain of death.

    Repeated numbers in Numerology
Double numbers (i.e. 11, 22, 33 etc.) and triple numbers (111, 222, 333 etc.) are called repdigits and this intensifies the meaning.  With 555, we have an additional factor that 555 is both a Sphenic number (a positive integer, the product of three distinct prime numbers) and a Harshad number (divisible by the sum of its digits).

Harshad is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Joy-giver’.

555 is said to represent notification that a life changing thought or event has just occurred.  You may or may not like it, but whatever the case, your Spirit Guides are notifying you that a change in your life path direction has just occurred and it is time for you to change too. Move with it, follow these thoughts.

    Angelic Numerology
My sister, Angela McGerr, refers to Angel Numerology.  In her system, she describes 5 as the number of raising of spiritual consciousness, linked to the five-point star of Microcosm. 55 means you are reaching the next, higher level, while 555 mean you have attained a certain level of Mastery in a healing discipline or Angelic Wisdom, or another esoteric subject, greatly furthering your own Soul Quest. Metatron and Shekinah each have a five-pointed star, equalling ten (perfect number) and the spheres on the Cabbala Tree of Life. When the digits of 555 are added together (5+5+5 = 15 then 1+5 =6) we get 6, which is the macrocosm.  Hence, the numerology of 555, gives us both the bigger picture (6) and smaller detail (5). 5 brings expansion through spiritual growth and 6 brings healing and consolidation of that personal expansion, hence life can be said to be dance of 5 & 6 as this cycle repeats ongoingly.

    Summary
This 555 numerology, combines the forces change on the universal level, with micro change on the individual level. The universe is making changes for us whether we ask for them or not. The universe, with permission of our soul, is changing our individual directions. Some of us seek change even when we are not sure what change we want, and others resist change at all costs. But when we set out our dreams and let go of how we expect them to appear, we can allow the energies to take us to new heights. To a future full of possibilities, still hidden, but soon to be revealed.

Healing therefore involves the subtle manipulation of the macrocosm, which resulted in a beneficial manifestation within the universal replica, the microcosm, namely the human being.  Man was born mortal but because he contained the seed of the divine, could be heavily influenced by divine intervention.  Life’s purpose was to nourish that seed and move towards a higher state of consciousness, leading to a reunification with the Divine.

Author Bruce Lipton, says a human body comprises 50 trillion cells, each meeting the definition of a living organism in as much as they respire, digest, reproduce, excrete and demonstrate sensitivity, growth and movement.  Hence each cell is like a miniature human being.  The current population of the Earth is less than 7.7 billion. In many ways, each of us is like a single cell within the collective humanity.

If 50 trillion individual cells can harmonise together as a single community, there must be hope for 7.7 billion to co-ordinate positive thoughts and co-create a better future for our planet.

  • World Animal Day, 4th October 2017

Bartolomeo painting of St Francis of asisiWednesday 4th October is the Feast of Francis of Assisi in the Christian Calendar, so it is appropriate that it is also World Animal Day since St Francis is the Patron Saint of Animals and the Environment. It is a popular date for animals to be blessed.

St Francis, who founded the Catholic Church’s Franciscan order, lived in Italy between approximately 1181 and 1226. He is remembered for his love for animals and nature and his generosity to the poor, as well as well as his willingness to minister to the lepers.

St Francis was cannonised (pronounced a Saint), shortly after his death (in 1228) by Pope Gregory IX. The Pope also laid the foundation stone for the Basilica of St Francis d'Assisi, Italy, which is a UNESCO world heritage site.
