  • Birthday of Ra & Roman Games of Apollo, 13th July 2018

Friday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra.  Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!  Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing so perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (Equivalent) date.

Friday 13th July in Roman Times was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.  As early as 212 BCE 13th July was the celebration of Apollo as the God of Healing (especially during wars) but this later extended into an 8 day festival ending on 13th July.  Apollo was associated with the Sun and his twin Diana (Goddess of Hunting) was associated with the moon.  Apollo became significant among the Romans when Augustus Caesar, as a young man, chose Apollo as his own god, and attributed his victory over Antony and Cleopatra to Apollo’s superiority over the Egyptian Deities!  Augustus is said to have described Apollo as: “Governor of Roman destiny; master of the sun; archer; augur; averter of pestilence; and giver of sound morals to the young.”

June is British summertime. The roses bloom, imprinting their perfumed scent into the extended evenings leading to the Solstice on the 21st. Garden flowers and hedgerows are splendidly colourful and summer berries are abundant.  This year, after extended lockdown, we will relish the picnic season with strawberries & ice-cream plus elderflower cordial; despite optimism versus realism whilst planning for both rain and/or sunburn risk.

The month could be named after Juno, the Roman Goddess Goddess linked with marriage. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called sera monath (dry month), which is not necessarily our modern-day experience.

During June, as well as our own traditional British Festivals, we have a couple of international events – World Environment Day (3rd) and Asteroid Day (30th).  We can look forward to a sprinkling of Chinese, Egyptian and Roman celebrations plus the Bootid Meteor Shower as well as a solar eclipse on 10th June. Unlike the lunar eclipse at the end of May, this solar eclipse will be visible in most of UK and Europe, and like the May lunar eclipse it will have an energetic impact globally. We have Surrey Forest Bathing events on 19th & 22nd with the Full Moon Guided Healing meditation taking place on the 23rd, the night before the Solstice Strawberry Moon (coinciding with Mid Summers Day) reaches its peak.

5th June alternative World Environment DaySaturday 5th June is World Environment day, which has been celebrated annually since 1972.

Over the years, the day has focused on such issues as acid rain, oceans, water, and green cities.

Happy World Ocean Day Instagram SquareTuesday 8th June is World Ocean Day.

This annual event, recognised since 2016, is designed to unite and rally the world to protect and restore our blue planet.

World Ocean Day, powered by World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council, works with an international network of youth and organisational leaders, in more than 140 countries, to support collaborative conservation.

10th June New MoonThursday 10th June @ 11:53 (Solstice Dark Moon & Annular Solar Eclipse), visible in most of Europe, North America & Asia, plus in North/West Africa, Atlantic & Arctic areas. See timeanddate.com.

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board for the rest of 2021.

14th June Chinese Dragon Boat FestivalMonday 14th June is scheduled as the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival in Mandarin and Tuen Ng Festival in Cantonese. The Festival is to commemorate the Chinese patriot, Qu Yuan, who killed himself by jumping into the river Li in despair. He was desperate because his master refused to take his advice and he feared his country falling into the enemy's hands  It is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, which falls this year on Monday 14th June.  However, celebrations often take place on convenient weekends in the Western calendar - such as the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festivalwhich was scheduled to take place this year in late June.  I'm not sure either willl be happening.

16th June Leyleten NuktahWednesday 16th June is the Egyptian night, known as Leyleten-Nuktah, the Night of the Tear Drop.

A miraculous tear-drop as Aset (Isis) began the mourning of her brother/husband Asar (Osirus), was believed to fall into the Nile causing it to rise and bring new life to the land.

Sources vary as to whether this is 14th/16th/17th or 18th June; the date is actually the 11th day of the Ancient Egyptian month of Ba-oo-neh, so the confusion arises when trying to covert this to our Gregorian calendar.

To purchase instructions for a sacred bath ritual for finding inner strength; removing the etheric mask to see the ‘truth’ beneath(£4.44 or £2.22 to email subscribers) see Harmony Shop or email .Subscriber discount code will be sent to Blog update subscribers on 16th June.

20th June Egyptian Festival of the Burning of the LampsSunday 20th June is the Egyptian Festival of the Burning of the Lamps which was held at Sais (source Bibliotheca Alexandrina, p31, also available via Academia.edu,date from Moonwise Calendar). This is the third great festival in Sais to Aset (Isis).

In an under-chapel beneath the temple, lamps were carried in procession around the coffin of Asar (Osiris). It was by the power of light, symbolising the life-giving power of the Moon, that Aset rekindled life in her dead husband.

The exact date is actually the 13th day of the Ancient Egyptian month of Epeiph, so confusion arises when trying to covert this to our Gregorian calendar and some sources give variations especially 21st June.

21st June Summer SolsticeMonday 21st June at 04.32 is the Pagan Celebration of the Solstice, the moment when the sun enters Cancer.  In the Northern Hemisphere, this is viewed as the triumph of light, the ecstatic culmination of the sun, yet the start of growing darkness.

Old traditions included: Making a bonfire on a hilltop, sing, drink, laugh and time of merry-making.  Processions with torches and lanterns, rolling wheel down hill to mark the start of the sun’s descent, blessing cakes and wine, waiting for the dawn and greeting the sun when it rises, sleeping by a spring, rolling naked in the dew of the summer sunrise! To book via Paypal

24th June Full MoonThursday 24th June is Full Moon @ 19.40 UK time.

It's the Summer Solstice Oak Strawberry Supermoon as well as Midsummers Day, also known as the Lotus Moon, Oak Moon, Cold Moon or Long Night’s Moon.

Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body.

For details of Full Moon timings for 2021, as well as instructions for an Angela McGerr's Full Moon Meditation with Gabriel (from Angela McGerr's book A Harmony of Angel, we have a few unused signed editions available from the Harmony Shop),see the Harmony Healing Full Moon listing.

24th June Mid Summers DayThursday 24th June is also Midsummers Eve and was considered magical in Cornwall and Ireland, when there was feasting, fires, songs, and dances. Bonfires were kindled on high hills to commemorate the high point of the year. Traditionally, the veil is thin between the dimensions housing the living and the dead at this time.

This is also the Roman Festival of Fors Fortuna.  Forsis an ancient Roman Goddess of prosperity, good luck, and divine blessings. Her name means "She Who Brings", from the Latin verb fero, synonymous with abundance and success.  This seems to have merged with Fortuna, probably originally a Goddess of fertility, into the Goddess called Fors Fortuna, who was acknowledged as sometimes being fickle or wanton and representing Fortune as Goddess of luck or chance.  She was especially worshipped by slaves and commoners, as the Goddess who could bring about rags-to-riches transformations; with at least two dedicated temples in Rome being founded by former slaves in gratitude for their changed luck.

26th June Bootids Meteor ShowerSaturday 26th June (Friday night/Saturday morning) is predicted as the peak of the Bootids Meteor Shower; if they are visible at all this year.  Although they are not active every year, they can occur any time between 22nd June and 2nd July.

In 2021, with the Full Moon occurring on 24th June, the peak dates will span a period of considerable moonlight pollution.

From more northerly latitudes (including UK), the all-night twilight poses an additional problem for observers.

More at in-the-sky.org, including a map of the radiant point.

30th June Asteroid DayWednesday 30th June is Asteroid Day. Asteroid Day was co-founded in 2014, by Dr. Brian May, astrophysicist and lead guitarist of QUEEN, together with Rusty Schweickart, Apollo 9 Astronaut, Danica Remy, President of B612 Foundation and filmmaker Grig Richters.

Asteroid Day events take place annually on 30th June to mark the anniversary of the Tunguska impact in 1908.

Its purpose is to expand the understanding of asteroids and to ensure that any asteroids which might ever have a direct impact on our planet are carefully monitored.

  • Egyptian Day of the Light of Aset (Isis) & Festival of Diana, 12th/13th August 2018

isis with sampleSunday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

Image (left) by Jacqui Taliesin El Masra (Alkhemi.co.uk) also available as a laminated poster from this site - see Harmony Shop.

Monday 13th August, in Roman tradition, was the Festival of Diana, being the date upon which King Servius Tullius dedicated her shrine on the Aventine Hill in Rome in the mid-sixth century BCE.  Diana was the hunting goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna; and the moon was an emblem of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised in poetry for her strength, athletic grace, purity, distinct beauty, and hunting skill.  Despite her virginal status, Diana was also a Goddess of Fertility.

  • Friday 21st August, Roman Festival of Consualia

Image of Circus maximusFriday 21st August is the Roman Festival of Consualia, to honour Consus, the god of counsel, and the one who protects the harvest, which was in storage at the time of the festival.  Mars, as a protector of the harvest, was also honoured on this day, as were the Lares, the household Gods that individual families held sacred.

During the celebration horses, mules, and assess were exempted from all labour, and were led through the streets adorned with garlands and flowers. Chariot races were held this day in the Circus Maximus, which included an odd race in which chariots were pulled by mules.Roman Chariot image by elukac from Pixabay

  • Lupercalia, 15th February 2019

    Lupercalia image from Wikipedia

Friday 15th February is Lupercalia in Ancient Roman tradition. Apparently, this was the popular ceremony of fertility, featuring naked men running through the street!  I can’t see this catching on in the UK climate!

This image of the Lupercalia Festival in Rome by Adam Elsheimer (18/03/1578 – 11/12/1610) is taken from the Wikipedia entry for Lupercalia and shows men dressed as dogs (or possibly Wolves since Lupus meant Wolf) and goats, Cupid and other personifications of fertility. Supposedly, the specially nominated priesthood for the occasion were called the Luperci ("brothers of the wolf"), and during the fertility ritual they paraded the streets around Rome either naked, or near naked, carrying strips of leather which were used to thrash in the direction of gathered audience. It was believed that any pregnant ladies struck by the whips would have an easier birthing process and any other ladies, whether considered barren or otherwise, mwould be granted fertility.

Hence, some say this ceremony was the precursor for Valentine’s Day (see entry below for 14th February).

  • Monday 15th March, Roman Festival of Anna Perenna & Ides of March

Anna Perenina 15th MarchMonday 15th March was the ancient celebration of Anna Perenna - Goddess of the Eternal Year in Roman tradition.  So that the circle could be completed, offerings were made to the Spirit of the Year.

Commoners celebrated with drinking, picnics and enthusiastic revelry.

According to Roman mythology, Anna Perenna was Dido's sister who, after Dido's suicide, was driven from Carthage to Latium. She was carried off by Numicus (the God of a stream) having incurred the wrath of Aeneas's wife in Latium. Aeneas's servants followed her tracks and discovered that she had metamorphosed into a water nymph.

Festival of Jupiter 15th marchIn Roman tradition, 15th March is also the Ides of March, as well as a Festival to Jupiter. Shakespeare had a soothsayer warn Julius Caesar 'Beware the Ides of March' and reputedly he was indeed assassinated on 15th March 44 BC.

By keeping traditions, communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

  • Monday 22nd February, Roman Festival of Caristia

Caristia 2Monday 22nd February is the Roman Festival of Caristia.

This was a Feast Day occasion of family reunion, when Roman fathers would pay special attention to their families.

It was a day of reconciliation when disagreements were to be set aside, but the satirical poet Ovid apparently suggested this would be best achieved by excluding family members who caused trouble.

Families gathered together to dine and offer food and incense to the Guardian Deities, collectively known as Lares.

The Ancient Romans believed that celebrating Caristia would enhance their family connections and hence improve their personal harmony and wellbeing.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. We have a new series of Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Level 1 Egyptian Alchemy healing courses started last Tuesday with Violet Flame and Khemitology (late starts accepted until next week two has aired).

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the next virtual healing circle later this month on Friday 26th February, at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £10 (+ £1 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

If you would like to experience one of our spiritual offerings (meditation, reading, 1:1 healing, a Forest Bathing+ session or a full mentoring course), why not ask for a Harmony Healing gift voucherfor a birthday or other celebratory occasion?

A number of virtual courses are now ready, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. • Monday 24th June, Midsummer's Eve in British tradition

Monday 24th June is Midsummers Eve and was considered magical in Cornwall and Ireland, when there was feasting, fires, songs, and dances. Bonfires were kindled on high hills to commemorate the high point of the year. Traditionally, the veil is thin between the dimensions housing the living and the dead at this time.

Fors Fortuna CarminaBurana wheelThis is also the Roman Festival of Fors Fortuna. Fors is an ancient Roman Goddess of prosperity, good luck, and divine blessings.

It also looks to have been the origin of the phrase Wheel of Fortune.

The image [By Anonymous (Public domain), via Wikimedia Commons] shows how Fortuna governs the circle of the four stages of life, the Wheel of Fortune, in a manuscript of Carmina Burana (Latin for Songs from Beuern; where Beuern is short for Benediktbeuern).

By keeping traditions, communities in Ancient Britain retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

  • Roman Festival of Consualia, 21st August 2018

Image of Circus maximusSunday 21st August is the Roman Festival of Consualia, to honour Consus, the god of counsel, and the one who protects the harvest, which was in storage at the time of the festival.  Mars, as a protector of the harvest, was also honoured on this day, as were the Lares, the household Gods that individual families held sacred.  During the celebration horses, mules, and assess were exempted from all labour, and were led through the streets adorned with garlands and flowers. Chariot races were held this day in theCircus Maximus, which included an odd race in which chariots were pulled by mules.

Image, taken from the Wikipedia entry for Circus Maximus, shows a model of Rome in the 4th century AD by Paul Bigot. The Circus lies between the Aventine (left) and Palatine (right); the oval structure near the top right is the Colosseum.

  • Saturday 15th May, Roman Festival of Argei

Argei 15 MaySaturday 15th May is the Roman Festival of Argei. At this ceremony, 27 Argei (human-shaped bundles of rushes) are carried counter-clockwise throughout the city in a procession.

In a ritual probably done as a substitute for human sacrifice, the Vestal Virgins then throw the Argei into the Tiber from the Bridge of Sublicius.

By keeping traditions, communities in Ancient Rome retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. The next RSE 1 module series started 14th May with Violet Flame of Amenti (late applicants accepted) and 17th May with Chakra Balancing, Axiatonal Alignment and Unity Consciousness.

I have speculated as to whether the Festival of Lemuria was also connected with the ancient land known as Lemuria - thought to have been located somewhere in the Pacific - and a hypothetical belief upheld by the Romans that the land might have been destroyed violently (legend says, rather like Atlantis, that a disaster such as flood or volcanic eruption caused its destruction).

  • Sunday 9th May, Roman Festival of Lemuria

381px Lar romano de bronce M.A.N. Inv.2943 01 Lara God worshipped for CaristiaSunday 9th May is date of the Roman Festival of Lemuria. Essentially, this was a ritual by the Master/Mistress of the House involving nine black beans(!) to honour the Lemures – restless and possibly malevolent spirits of those who died violent or unnatural deaths. Conversely, Lars were seen as benevolent Guardian Ancestors to be revered.

Traditionally, a sacred salted flour cake (mola salsa), was baked from the initial ears of wheat of the season, by the Vestal Virgins.

According to Ovid (living circa 43 BCE - 17 CE), Lemuria was derived from Remuria by Romulus to appease the murdered spirit of Remus (Ovid, Fasti, V.421ff; Porphyrius). Ovid records that the custom to appease/expel the evil spirits at this festival involved walking barefoot and throwing the black beans over the shoulder at night. The head of the household was responsible for getting up at midnight and treading bare foot around the house throwing out black beans and incantating, "Haec ego mitto; his redimo meque meosque fabis (I send these; with these beans I redeem me and mine)" a total of nine times. The household would then clang bronze pots together whilst repeating nine times an incantation translating as "Ghosts of my fathers and ancestors, be gone!"

This rendered the whole month of May as unlucky for marriages and led to the Roman proverb "Mense Maio malae nubunt (Bad girls wed in May)".

Interestingly, in Celtic & Pagan lore, with Beltane being 1st May, this would have been a traditional month in which to marry, demonstrating a reversal of traditional beliefs.

June 24th was designated as a feast celebration called St John's Day in the Christian Calendar, dedicated to the marytr St John The Baptist. The observance begins the night before as St John's Eve.  It's also commemorated in Freemasonry.

  • Tuesday 13th July, Birthday of Ra & Roman Games of Apollo

13 July Birthday of Ra full bodyTuesday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra

Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!

Ra, also sometimes known as Re was the Khemitian (Ancient Egyptian according to the oral traditions) deity of the sun.

By the Fifth Dynasty (circa in the 25th/24th centuries BCE), he had evolved into one of the most important gods in ancient Egyptian religion, identified predominantly with the noon-day sun. Ra was also believed to rule in all parts of the created world including over royalty, the sky, the Earth, plus even the underworld.

Since Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing, perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (equivalent) date.

6 18 22 July FB sessionsTuesday 13th July in Roman Times was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.

By keeping traditions, communities in Ancient Egypt and Rome retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

128px IsisWednesday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night. There was also a Nile festival named variously as Jabr El-Khalig, Wafa El-Nil or Fath El-Khalig (European scholars refer to it as the Marriage of the Nile), a nocturnal illuminated celebration involving a clay statue Arousat El-Nil (the Bride of the Nile) which was deposited in the river.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

150px Bas relief from Arch of Marcus Aurelius showing sacrificeWednesday 15th May is the Roman Festival of Argei.
