  • Monday 14th June, Chinese Dragon Boat Festival

14th June Chinese Dragon Boat FestivalMonday 14th June is scheduled as the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival in Mandarin and Tuen Ng Festival in Cantonese.

The Festival is to commemorate the Chinese patriot, Qu Yuan, who killed himself by jumping into the river Li in despair. He was desperate because his master refused to take his advice and he feared his country falling into the enemy's hands.

It is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, which falls this year on Monday 14th June.

However, celebrations often take place on convenient weekends in the Western calendar - such as the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festivalwhich was scheduled to take place this year in late June, but willl not be happening this year.

By keeping traditions, communities retain a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. Within Surrey, via Harmony In Nature, we facilitate Forest bathing+ sessions to help adults reconnect with nature and reap the therapeutic benefits (see Forest Bathing+ section of this site on the purple navigation bar above for more about this concept and dates of our events).

Through Harmony Healing, Joanna offers a wider spectrum of events designed to nurture your welbeing. If you are looking for regular spiritually enlightening activities, we have our monthly Full Moon Guided Healing Meditations. The next one is on Wednesday 23rd Juneat 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT +1). Participants all receive a deeply healing experience. Cost to participate is £20 by online BACS payment (small admin fee added for PayPal) or half price to RSE graduates.

During these monthly session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. And, most importantly, it's a step towards making a difference to the global predicament.

Two RSE 1 modules start in July/August month with Khemitology on Tuesdays 20th, 27th July and 3rd August and Essene Angelology on Tuesdays 10th & 17th August. The other two modules have just been run but can be completed with the next series.

If you would like to experience one of our spiritual offerings (meditation, reading, 1:1 healing, a Forest Bathing+ session or a full mentoring course), why not ask for a Harmony Healing gift voucherfor a birthday or other celebratory occasion?

Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

  • Saturday 25th January, Chinese New Year of the Metal Rat

    Moon Scarletts shot square

Saturday 25th January is Chinese New Year, which is based on the Chinese lunar calendar, so starts this year after the New Moon on Friday 24th January @ 21:44.

This marks the start of the Year of the Metal Rat, which runs until the evening of Lunar New Years Eve on Thursday 11th February 2021. Image by cienpies purchased from Istock.

The Rat is the first of the twelve zodiac animals in the Chinese zodiac. According to myth, as detailed in chinesenewyear.com the Jade Emperor said that the order in which they arrived to his party, would decide the order in the zodiac. The Rat coaxed the Ox into giving him a ride. As they approached the finish line, the Rat arrived first by jumping down and landing ahead of Ox.

As explained in chinahighlights.com, there is also a rotation of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal. water. Each element lasts 12 years as it continues through a full rotation of all zodiac animals, making a 60 year cycle.  Meaning that we last experienced the year of the Metal Rat 60 years ago, between 28th January 1960 and 14th February 1961.

This means that in the year of your 60th birthday, you will retun to your original birth zodiac sign in terms of animal and element.  As I was born in the year of the Metal Rat in 1960, this will apply to me this year!

Rats are traditionally seen as a sign of wealth and surplus in Chinese culture and married couples pray to them for children, because of their reproduction rate.

In China, generally the New Year celebration is a major event with seven days' absence from work, from New Year’s Eve (Friday 24th January) until the 6th day of the first lunar month (Thursday 30th January). Sadly this year, the outbreak of Coronavirus has limited the festivities in some large cities.

Some Chinese families take their Zodiac very seriously and use the horoscopes to bring balance and wellbeing into their lives. There is advice on lucky and unlucky colours to wear, numbers to seek out and ones to avoid, plus recommended directions of auspiciousness, wealth and love. There are also guidelines on which zodiac animals are most and least compatible as life partners.
