  • Ancient Egyptian Ceremony of the Raising of the Djed Pillar, 5th September 2018

Osiris Poster by Jacqui Taliesin El MasriWednesday 5th September is the Ancient Egyptian Ceremony of the Raising of the Djed Pillar.

Djed.svgThe worship of the Djed pillar, and the annual 'Raising of the Djed' ceremony, is amongst the earliest ritualistic religious practices of ancient Egypt.  The Djed symbol is widely regarded as a religious icon, see omage of the Djed Pillar (right), symbolising stability, is by Jeff Dahl - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0.

The Djed (sometimes spelt Tet) was stated to have arisen from the primordial mound of creation and Egyptologist Wallis Budge believed to be the backbone of the Egyptian god Wzr (also known as Asar or Osirus) although it's not clearly understood what it is meant to represent. A laminated poster of Wzr (Ausar, Osirus) by Jacqui Taliesin El Masri of Alkhemi.co.uk (as shown left) is also available from the Harmony Shop along with other Egyptian Deity posters by Jacqui.

Wzr was the Deity and guardian of the dead, the underworld (also called Amenti) and the afterlife.

The ancient illustrations below show the raising of the Djed ceremony, and may be representing the resurrection of Wzr following his assassination by his brother Set.  This took place before Wzr famously 'sired' Heru (Horus after subsequent Greek influence), leading to the resurrection and Immaculate Conception parallels with the later Christian story of Jesus.

    Raising the Djed anient images

Naturally the images have also led to speculation that the Raising of the Djed pillar is a metaphor for the erection of the male phallus.

The ceremony was sometimes associated with the earlier Deity Ptah, whose scepter was a cross between an ankh and the Djed symbol and Ptah was sometimes nicknamed the noble djed. Ptahwas traditionally illustrated with blue skin and was the male aspect of the trinity (or triad) Ptah, Sekhmet and Nefertum (the child).  Ptah was a prominent Deity in the Memphis vicinity of Egypt.  Memphis, which was reputedly founded by Menes, and which is situated near the metropolis of Sakkara (about 12 miles/18km from present day Cairo) and was the Egyptian Capital City during the Old Kingdom (c3100-2258BCE).  Interestingly, Wzr is always shown with green skin.

According to some sources, over time Ptah slowly became assimilated with Wzr, who formed part of the Ennead (nine prominent Deities associated with one of the popular creation myths).

July is still British summertime. Time for the orchids, delphiniums, dahlias, hydrangeas, irises and sunflowers to bloom, and the lingering perfumed scent of roses, honeysuckle, gardenias and jasmine on the night air. Traditionally, here in the UK, July would feature the Wimbledon Championship tennis finals and Henley Regatta; this year the latter is postponed until August.

The month of July was renamed to honour Julius Caesar, who was born in this month. Under Roman rule it was previous called Quintilis, meaning the 5th month in Latin. This was before January became the opening month of the calendar year, when the Gregorian calendar was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called Æftera Līþa (after midsummer).

During July, as well as the intriguing Mary Magdalene Day (abandoned in 1552), we have Canada Day (1st) plus a couple of international independence celebrations – USA (4th) and France (14th). We can look forward to a sprinkling of Zoroastrian, Buddhist and Hindu Festivals as well as a Roman annual commemoration.  However, the month is inundated with Egyptian Deity commemorations, initially featuring the birthday of Ra (13th), then the month ends with the fiveEpagomenal Days - also known as the 'Days out of Time' - which celebrated the Birthdays of five major Egyptian Deities, culminating with the end of the Egyptian calendar year (1st August being their New Year). Egypt was formerly known asKhem in times of antiquity. To mark the auspicious relevance of these dates to the Ancient Egyptian calendar, I am running my Khemitology course on Tuesday evenings 20th July - 3rd August. We have Surrey Forest Bathing events on the 8th, 18th & 22nd with the Full Moon Guided Healing meditation taking place on Friday 23rd, the night of the Lunasa Thunder Moon (reaches its peak at 03.37 on 24th).

1 July Tir JishanThursday 1st July, in Fasli tradition, is the Zoroastrian Rain Festival of Tir Jashan, dedicated to the star deities of Tir and Teshar.

Give bracelets made of the seven colours of the rainbow.  At the end of the festival go to a high place and throw them into the wind (biodegradeable I hope).

As the Festival is actually on the 13th of Tir, some Zorastrian traditions convert this to 4th July.

1st July Canada dayThursday 1st July is also Canada Day; the national day of Canada.

This is a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of Canadian confederation, which took place with the passing of the Constitution Act on 1st July 1867, where the new name Canada recognised the three separate colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick being united into a single Dominion within the British Empire.

4 July American Independence DaySunday 4th July is American Independence Day.

This marks the anniversary of unanimous adoption of the Declaration of Independence, by the Second Continental Congress in 1776

The Declaration announced that the 13 colonies claimed their separation from England, which eventually led to the formation of the United States.

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board for the rest of 2021.

13 July Birthday of Ra full bodyTuesday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra.

Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!

Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing so perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (equivalent) date.

13 July Games of ApolloTuesday 13th July, in Roman Times, was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.

As early as 212 BCE 13th July was the celebration of Apollo as the God of Healing (especially during wars) but this later extended into an 8 day festival ending on 13th July.

Apollo was associated with the Sun and his twin Diana (Goddess of Hunting) was associated with the moon.

Apollo became significant among the Romans when Augustus Caesar, as a young man, chose Apollo as his own god, and attributed his victory over Antony and Cleopatra to Apollo’s superiority over the Egyptian Deities!

Augustus is said to have described Apollo as: “Governor of Roman destiny; master of the sun; archer; augur; averter of pestilence; and giver of sound morals to the young.”

14 July Bastille DayWednesday 14th July is Bastille Daya national holiday in France.

This commemorates a mob of Frenchmen, rebelling against the rule of their king, who stormed a prison to obtain weapons and free prisoners.

It sparked the French Revolution in 1789.

22nd July Mary Magdalene DayThursday 22nd July was celebrated in the First Book of Common Prayer, 1549, as Saint Mary Magdalene’s Day in the Christian calendar.  When the Second Book of Common Prayer was published 3 years later in 1552, this feast day, amongst others was omitted.

Early celebrations of Mary Magdalene's Feast Day included marriage symbolism such as creating your own healing oil blends "for the marital bed”, probably including oils such as rose, sandalwood, and ylang ylang.

Apparently the original feast day venerated her as a representative of the perfect wife (church liturgy recommended readings such as Proverbs 31:10-31), so it is a day to celebrate the Sacred Feminine, maybe plant something, sew something, cook something and, of course, love something.

24 July Guru PurnimaSaturday 24th July, being the day of the Full Moon in July, it is also Guru Purnima (the Full Moon of the Gurus) in Hindu tradition. The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima by Hindus.

On this day, devotees offer puja (worship) to their Guru. The Sanskrit root "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes the darkness of ignorance is a Guru.

It is a day for celebration and worship, a day on which the disciples remember and express their gratitude to the lineage of Gurus. Hindus believe that a Guru is necessary to make one understand the formless Divinity.

24 July Asalkha Puja daySaturday 24th July is Asalhka Puja Day; a Buddhist commemoration of the Buddha's first public speech to five ascetics. He declared the middle way, the noble eight-fold path and the four noble truths upon which Buddhism is based.

26 July eve of Epagomenal DaysMonday 26th July (or 13th July) is the Egyptian eve of the Epagomenal Days of celebration for the birthdays of their ancient major Deities. The exact correlation of the Egyptian New year to the modern calendar is disputed, but I favour the linking with the heliacal rising of Sirius (dawn visibility of Sirius) as this star, known to the Egyptians as Sopdet (pronounced Soppday) was closely associated with Aset.

The celebrations began on the Eve of the Epagomenal Days - viewed as 26th July, although some sources equate it to 13th July). The following days marked the birthdays of the five children of the Egyptian Deity Nut.

27 July birthday of AusarBeing dates of powerful Egyptian Energies these may prove ideal days for an Egyptian Energy Reyad Sekh Em 1-2-1 healing session.

28 July birthday of HeruAccording to myth, Tehuti (Thoth) enabled Nut to give birth to her five children [Aset (Isis), Ausar (Osirus), Set, Heru (Horus the elder) and Nebt-het (Nephthys)] by using his cunning to win a game of draughts with the moon.

By winning a seventy second part of the moon's light, he managed to create five extra days (the Epagomenal Days, also known as the Days out of Time), which allowed Nut to give birth to her five children without breaking Ra's decree that her children could not be born on any existing calendar day.

This myth more than any other is responsible for Tehuti (Thoth)'s role as a lunar deity.

29 July birthday of SetTuesday 27th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Ausar (Osirus).

He is also known as Wzr, Wesir, Asar, Ausir, Usir, Usire,Osirus,Osirus. The latter two versions being used later after the Greek occupation, but the variation is mainly due to the lack of vowels in heiroglyphic language meaning that there are many phonetic representations. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

    30 July birthday of Aset

Wednesday 28th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Heru (Horus).

This is Heru-ur [also known as Horus the Elder (Gr)], sibling of Ausar and Aset, not their son. Not all sources list him as a sibling, Egyptian mythology widely varies depending on the era and geographical location of the source within Egypt. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

Thursday 29th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Set (Seth). Set is also known as Seth (Gr), Setesh, Sutekh, Setekh or Suty which probably ultimately led to the term SatanSee the entry under 26th July for the full story.

31 July birthday of Nebt hetFriday 30th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Aset [Aset, Iset, Isis (Gr)]

Auset is responsible for resurrecting her murdered husband and, being mad with grief, uses her magical powers to temporarily restore breath and life into Ausar in order to concieve their son Heru.See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

Saturday 31st July is the Egyptian Birthday of Nebt-het  [Nebet-Het, Nebthet, Nepthys (Gr)].

Nebh-het is the sister-wife of Set and is typically paired with her sister Auset when undertaking funerary rites because of their protective priestess roles with mummified bodies. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

  • Egyptian Day of the Light of Aset (Isis) & Festival of Diana, 12th/13th August 2018

isis with sampleSunday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

Image (left) by Jacqui Taliesin El Masra (Alkhemi.co.uk) also available as a laminated poster from this site - see Harmony Shop.

Monday 13th August, in Roman tradition, was the Festival of Diana, being the date upon which King Servius Tullius dedicated her shrine on the Aventine Hill in Rome in the mid-sixth century BCE.  Diana was the hunting goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna; and the moon was an emblem of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised in poetry for her strength, athletic grace, purity, distinct beauty, and hunting skill.  Despite her virginal status, Diana was also a Goddess of Fertility.

  • Festival of the Three Marys, 24th May 2018

Thursday 24th May is the Romani and Christian Festival of the Three Marys at Sainte-Maries-de-la-Mar, on the south coast of France.  Here landed Mary Magdalene, Mary Jacob (the sister of Mother Mary known in the Catholic faith as Our Lady) and Mary Salome (mother of James and John). A local Chieftain, Sara the Kali, had a vision of their arrival and by spreading her cloak over the rough sea ensured their safe arrival.

map of the camargueSaine-Maries-de-la-Mar (Saint Marys of the Sea) is the capital of the Camargue (Provençal Occitan  Camarga) in the south of France. Interestingly, it is noted on the Wikipedia page, from where this map was taken [courtesy of ChrisO (Public domain), via Wikimedia Commons], that the village was noted as "Ra" in the 4th century AD by the Roman geographer Rufus Festus Avienus. Ra being the Ancient Egyptian Deity also known as the Sun God, this could reinforce the idea that Mary Magdalene was actually of Egyptian origin (possibly from the southern area of Nubia, where the native people are very dark skinned) and could also have been the revered Black Madonna.

  • Friday 16th October, New Moon & Supermoon @ 20.32

Friday 16th October @ 20.32 is the New Moon or Pagan Dark Moon and it's a Supermoon.

A Supermoon is when the moon appears larger in the sky because it is reaches the closest proximity to Earth (known as the perigee*) coinciding with the New Moon or Full Moon. Since the New Moon is only a sliver to the naked eye, the Full Moon Supermoons are much more of a visual treat, when the moon may appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than on any other Full Moon occasion. Although it may not seem all that noticeable to us and of course it will depend on good clear viewing conditions; however due to an optical illusion, it will always look bigger and more luminous when closer to the horizon.

*The moon orbits around the Earth in an ellipse which takes just over 29 days, meaning that it reaches points in the year when it is at its closest (perigee, when it is about 363,000 km away) and furthest (apogee, when it is about 405,500 KM) from our planet. Those old enough might be reminded of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks when Angela Lansbury mentions the perigee and apogee in one of her invocations!

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board (downloadable instructions on this page) for the rest of 2020. Hopefully a move towards a world where we can move freely again and are enjoying a global economic recovery.

Aligning ourselves with the moon cycle is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the New moon (good for starting new projects) and Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

  • Khoiak & Nehebkau, Egyptian Festivals 2018

    Osiris

Friday 23rd November is the Egyptian celebration Khoiak and Nehebkau on  Thursday 29th November.  The Egyptian Year was split into three seasons (divided into 4 months of 30 days), commencing with Akhet in early August, then Peret from late November to early April and Shomu from early April until mid July.  Khoiak was a sombre celebration to complete the first season; later associated with the death of Asar (Osiris).  However, it was followed closely by Nehebkau - marking the start of the next season Peret - and was seen as a kind of rebirth process.

Thursday 29th November is the Egyptian celebration Nehebkau, which literally meant 'he who unites the Kas'; the Ka being the body double which we might interpret as spirit or soul. See Ka image to left.

Nehebkau was depicted in the form of a snake with arms and legs and occasionally wings!  He was yet another Deity associated with protection and magic.

A laminated poster of Wzr (Ausar, Osirus) shown right by Jacqui Taliesin El Masry of Alkhemi.co.uk is also available from the Harmony Shop along with other Egyptian Deity posters by Jacqui.

This year, Thursday 29th November 2018 has numerological significance as a secondary 11:11:11 (and also a 2:2:2) - see separate Blog entry.

  • Leyleten-Nuktah, Night of the Tear Drop, 16th June 2018

Saturday 16th June is the Egyptian night, known as Leyleten-Nuktah, the Night of the Tear Drop.

A miraculous tear-drop as Aset (Isis) began the mourning of her brother/husband Asar (Osirus), was believed to fall into the Nile causing it to rise and bring new life to the land.

The ancient land of Khemit (Egypt) was incredibly fertile due to the silt deposited by the River Nile.  Many rivers flow north to south and flood in the winter months when the mountain snow melt.s at the source.

The Nile River was always the backbone of Khemitian life. The mighty river flows northwards for some 4,000 miles from the mountains of Equatorial Africa (Blue Nile) and Lake Victoria (White Nile) before it empties into the Mediterranean Sea via the Nile Delta. The development of the Khemitian civilization could not have happened were it not for the Nile, as it is the only significant source of water in this desert region. It would flood annually in the summer months, depositing tons of nutrient-rich sediment; when the waters receded the silt would stay behind, fertilizing the land, enabling rich agricultural production.

Nilometers were used to record how high the Nile was during the year.  Nilometers, which were marked staircases build down into the Nile, were placed at strategic points so the Khemitians could monitor the changes in the water level.

If flooding was too heavy, local villages would be washed away. Minimal flooding or no flood at all would mean famine. A successful harvest depended on the flood levels being exactly right.

Since the Khemitian lifestyle revolved around the Deities (Neteru), the great ‘inundation’ when the Nile flooded was attributed to Aset’s tears over the death of her beloved Ausar.  Records indicate that in the days of Ancient Khemit, this flooding probably occurred around the middle of June which then coincided with the heliacal rising of Sirius, a star that they associated with Aset and an astronomical event which could have been easily pinpointed.

The Khemitians called it, Night of a Teardrop.  On this night, (June 16) when the moon rose high in its sky, Aset shed blessed and mournful tears for her beloved, Ausar. The precious tears were then collected causing the Nile to bring forth its annual flood. Even in Aset’s pain, something divine came forth.

Bring me the milk of Aset, the flood of Nebt-Het, the overspill of the lake, the surge of the sea, life, prosperity, health, happiness, bread, beer...

  • Monday 12th/Tuesday 13th August Egyptian, Day of the Light of Aset (Isis) & Festival of Diana

128px IsisWednesday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

Image here of Auset is from Wikipedia is by Jeff Dahl [CC BY-SA 4.0].

256px Diane de Versailles Leochares 2 1 wikipediaThursday 13th August, in Roman tradition, was the Festival of Diana, being the date upon which King Servius Tullius dedicated her shrine on the Aventine Hill in Rome in the mid-sixth century BCE.

Thursday 13th - Saturday 15th August is Obon (also known as Bon); a Buddhist festival to honour dead loved ones. Celebrated through the lighting of bonfires, sacred meals, paper lanterns and dancing. See more at japan-guide.com

By keeping traditions, Pagan communities and those in Ancient Egypt retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians to bring balance and harmony. A number of virtual courses are starting again this week, including Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing Level 1 (which is now fully available as interactive training modules) details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

  • Monday 19th August, Egyptian Festival of Tehuti

256px ThothMonday 19th August is the Egyptian Festival of Tehuti (Thoth) marking the occasion on which Tehuti (Thoth) ordered the healing of the eye of Heru (Horus). Image left of Tehuti (Thoth) is from Wikipedia is by Jeff Dahl [CC BY-SA 4.0].

An MP3 Meditation to visit the Akashic Records with Tehuti is available from the CDs and Meditations section of the Harmony Shop. This is a meditation to visit your personal Akashic record (which the Egyptians believed were housed in the Halls of Amenti) to see if hidden blockages to your spiritual growth and wellbeing may be revealed at this time. The totality of the Akashic records are said to contain and describe all knowledge of human experience as well as the history of the cosmos; so they could be described as the DNA of the Universe. This meditation was devised for 19th August or 19th September (both being Festivals of Tehuti) would add emphasis, but can be used anytime.

  • Monday 23rd & Sunday 29th November, Egyptian Festivals of Khoiak & Nehebkau

    Osiris

Monday 23rd November is the Egyptian celebration Khoiak and Nehebkau oSunday 29th November.

A laminated poster of Wzr (Ausar, Osirus) shown right by Jacqui Taliesin El Masry of Alkhemi.co.ukis also available from the Harmony Shop along with other Egyptian Deity posters by Jacqui.

Ka image purpleSunday 29th November is the Egyptian celebration Nehebkau, which literally meant 'he who unites the Kas'; the Ka being the body double which we might interpret as spirit or soul. See the upstretched arm Ka image to left, illustrated by Peter Lomas.

Nehebkau was depicted in the form of a snake with arms and legs and occasionally wings!  He was yet another Deity associated with protection and magic.

Ancient Egyptian Traditional festivals like this helped local communities feel connected, bringing balance and harmony into people's lives.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians, in the form of Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing, to bring balance and harmony. Full details of  Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Level 1 are on Harmony Healing Virtual Events.

The next virtual healing circle is Monday 30th November at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £10 (+ £1 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

  • Monday 24th May, Festival of the Three Marys in France

24 May Festival of the 3 MarysMonday 24th May is the Romani and Christian Festival of the Three Marys at Sainte-Maries-de-la-Mar, on the south coast of France.

Sainte-Maries-de-la-Mar (Saint Marys of the Sea) is the capital of the Camargue (Provençal Occitan Camarga) in the south of France. Interestingly, it is noted on the Wikipedia page, that the village was noted as "Ra" in the 4th century AD by the Roman geographer Rufus Festus Avienus.

Ra being the Ancient Egyptian Deity also known as the Sun God, this could reinforce the idea that Mary Magdalene was actually of Egyptian origin (possibly from the southern area of Nubia, where the native people are very dark skinned) and could also have been the revered Black Madonna.

By keeping traditions, communities in Camargue retain a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. The next RSE 1 module series started 14th May with Violet Flame of Amenti and 17th May with Chakra Balancing, Axiatonal Alignment and Unity Consciousness. Late appliacants to both courses can still be accommodated as the teachings are recorded.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities following lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the next virtual healing circle later this month on Wednesday 26th May at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT+1), and costs £20 (+ £2 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

  • Monday 26th - Saturday 31st July, Egyptian Epagomenal Days

    Ennead with Heru Ur

26 July eve of Epagomenal DaysMonday 26th July
(or 13th July according to some sources) is the Egyptian Eve of the Epagomenal Daysthe birthday celebrations for their prominent ancient major Deities. The celebrations began on the Eve of the Epagomenal Days - viewed this year as Monday 26th July. The following days marked the birthdays of the five children of the Egyptian Deity Nut.

Being dates of powerful Egyptian Energies these may prove ideal days for an Egyptian Energy Reyad Sekh Em 1-2-1 healing session.  According to myth, Tehuti (Thoth) enabled Nut to give birth to her five children [Aset (Isis), Ausar (Osirus), Set, Heru-Ur (Horus the Elder) and Nebt-Het (Nephthys)] by using his cunning to win a game of draughts with the moon. By winning a seventy second part of the moon's light, he managed to create five extra days (the Epagomenal Days), which allowed Nut to give birth to her five children without breaking Ra's decree that her children could not be born on any existing calendar day. This myth more than any other is responsible for Tehuti (Thoth)'s role as a lunar deity.

64px Standing Osiris edit1Tuesday 27th July in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Ausar. He is also known as Wzr, Wesir, Asar, Ausir, Usir, Usire, Osiris, Osirus. The latter two versions being used later after the Greek occupation, but the variation is mainly due to the lack of vowels in heiroglyphic language meaning that there are many phonetic representations. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

Ausar is the oldest of the 5 siblings born to Geb and Nut during the Epagomenal Days, he is the Deity of fertility, agriculture, vegetation, the dead, the afterlife, resurrection, life and alcohol. He is depicted with green skin and a pharaonic beard, partially mummified, holding his crook and flail and wearing the atef crown. His consort was Aset (also known as Isis) who co-ruled the Kingdom. According to folklore, the younger brother Set was very jealous, tricks Ausar into getting into a specially made coffin 'to try it for size', then nails down the lid and throws it in the Nile thereby murdering his older brother and userping the throne. Auset finds the coffin inside a cedar of lebanon tree which has grown around it.

She hides the body amongst reeds, intending to return and use her magic to bring him back to life. Before she can do this, Set finds it and dismembers the body into many pieces. Auset searches and collects all the pieces together (except the penis which had allegedly been eaten by a catfish) and uses her spells to resurrect him briefly to create their divine son Heru (Horus), who was postumously born through immaculate conception.  The process of re-membering Ausar is hought to have led to the prototype for mummification.

Horus standing by Jeff DahlWednesday 28th July is the Birthday of Heru-Ur (Horus). This is Heru-ur [also known as Horus the Elder (Gr)], sibling of Ausar and Aset, not their son. Not all sources list him as a sibling, Egyptian mythology widely varies depending on the era and geographical location of the source within Egypt.

He is generally depicted as a Hawk or Falcon headed Deity, although sometimes he is shown as a hieracosphinx; a creature with a lion's body and a hawk's head and wings, with some believing he was the inspiration for the Sphinx in Giza. Heru was viewed as a Sky Deity, whereas Nut is also viewed as the sky in its entirety, Heru's right eye represented the Sun and his left eye was the Moon. He was sometimes referred to as Kemwer meaning the 'great black one' and was later viewed as the patron of the pharaohs and associated with truth and hence also with Ma'at, upholder of the truth on Judgement Day. The movement of these across the heavens was thought to take place as he traversed the sky in his form as a hawk or falcon

64px SetThursday 29th Julyis the Birthday of Set (Seth). Set is also known as Seth (Gr), Setesh, Sutekh, Setekh or Suty which probably ultimately led to the term Satan. He is overlord of the red desert in the south of Egypt and oversees fire, deserts, chaos, disorder, storms, trickery, envy, violence, as well as foreigners! One of his major chacteristics was said to be potent, forceful indescriminate sexual desire with homosexual tendencies.

Yet he is conversely credited for sitting on Ra's solar boat and helping to repel Apep - the serpent of chaos. He is depicted with an animal head which is not readily recognised as any creatures known currently but with an extended curved snout and long upright rectangular ears, he resembles a mixture of a jackal, a donkey and an aardvark (ant-eater). He's sometimes shown with a canine body and forked tail. Apart from his murderous action on his older brother Ausar, Set is additionally known for his battle against Heru as to who should inherit the Kingdom. During their fight, which in some versions goes on for over 80 years, Heru is said to have destroyed Set's testicles whereas Set is said to have torn out one (or in some versions both) of Heru's eyes

64px IsisFriday 30th July is the Birthday of Aset [Auset, Iset, Isis (Gr)]Aset is responsible for resurrecting her murdered husband and, being mad with grief, uses her magical powers to temporarily restore breath and life into Ausar in order to concieve their son Heru. It seems that her anger, sexual desire and sorrow at his death were instrumental in making her magic effective. After Ausar has fathered Horus, he is only able to live in the afterworld (Dwat or Amenti) where he becomes the eternal guardian. Aset is also thought to restore the souls of deceased humans as she did for her husband.

Her headdress is said to represent a throne. She is thought to be able change herself into a falcon. Aset is said to have one thousand names and to oversee any number of attributes, but she is best known for her association with health and wellbeing, feminine charms, art, music, wisdom, protection (especially children) and sexuality plus of course magical rites.
    64px Nepthys

Saturday 31st July is the Egyptian Birthday of Nebt-Het [Nebet-Het, Nebthet, Nepthys (Gr)]. Nebh-het is the sister-wife of Set and is typically paired with her sister Aset when undertaking funerary rites because of their protective priestess roles with mummified bodies.

Her headdress depicts a column (sometimes described as a house or a sacred temple enclosure) with a basket on the top. She is sometimes shown as a kite or with protective falcon wings, said to emulate the piercing cries of a wailing moan of the bereaved in mourning. She represents divine assistance and protective guardianship and she is generally considered to be the mother of Anpu [Anubis (Gr)],with Ausaroften cited as being the father, not Set. Nebt-Het is Goddessof rivers, the night, service, protection, the home, the hearth, childbirth, mothers, mourning, the dead, coffins and burial.

  • Saturday 12th September, Heritage Open Day at West Horsley Place

285019f4 686c 4a89 8152 7465ed7bbd34Saturday 12th September, Heritage Day at West Horsley Place, where we are offering complimentary Forest Bathing+ taster sessions. There were just 12 places available in the morning which filled very quickly.

Forest Bathing+ involves a two-three hour immersive experience (depending on the season), ideally within ancient woodland such as rthe grounds of West Horsley Place, Surrey.

Forest Bathing is an elementary practice (children instinctively enjoy nature this way) which can elicit surprisingly positive reactions. In a nutshell, it can be described as mindful time under the canopy of trees using the senses. Deep breathing is also encouraged; Japanese research uncovered essential wood oils help boost our immune system.

Some of the scientifically proven benefits of spending time in woodland include reduced stress levels, stronger immune system response, and a stabilised cortisol cycle.

Joanna has undertaken Forest Bathing+ (FB+) Guide training with The Forest Bathing Institute (TFBI) and works with a team of other TFBI qualified FB+ Guides.

During the session you will be provided with a sequence of sensory exercises designed to calm the body and mind. Whilst this might sound intimidating, in practice participants love it! If you have ever wondered about the healing benefits of nature, this session should give you a chance to experience it for yourself. To get a better idea of what to expect, please see the Facebook videos below.

Whilst undertaking the mindfulness sensory exercises during the session, participants will be asked to refrain from talking to each other (and avoid other distractions such as mobile phone use) so that all participants can gain the full benefits from the surroundings.

  • Saturday 23rd & Thursday 29th November, Egyptian Festivals of Khoiak & Nehebkau

    Osiris

Saturday 23rd November is the Egyptian celebration Khoiak and Nehebkau oFriday  29th November.

A laminated poster of Wzr (Ausar, Osirus) shown right by Jacqui Taliesin El Masry of Alkhemi.co.uk is also available from the Harmony Shop along with other Egyptian Deity posters by Jacqui.

Ka image purpleFriday 29th November is the Egyptian celebration Nehebkau, which literally meant 'he who unites the Kas'; the Ka being the body double which we might interpret as spirit or soul. See the upstretched arm Ka image to left, illustrated by Peter Lomas.

Nehebkau was depicted in the form of a snake with arms and legs and occasionally wings!  He was yet another Deity associated with protection and magic.

  • Sunday 15th November, New Moon & Supermoon @ 05.08 (Saturday night/Sunday morning)

Sunday 15th November @ 05.08 (Saturday night/Sunday morning) is the New Moon or Pagan Dark Moon and it's a Supermoon. There have been three New Moon Supermoons in succession on 17th September, 16th October and 15th November.

If you feel connected to the lunar cycle, note that our next Full Moon virtual healing circle (£11), 7.30-9.30pm (GMT) is on Monday 30th November, when you will be guided though a mindful chakra healing programme, using colours and crystal energy. You will then be connected above (to the Sky) and below (to the Earth) to be part of the Harmony Healing Lightworker collective and start making a difference by sending regular global healing.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians, in the form of Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing, to bring balance and harmony. Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Level 1 - a new series off virtual interactive training modules started this month (this is still open to late starters), details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events.

The next virtual healing circle is 7.30-9.30pm (UK time), Monday 30th November, which is the Elder Full Moon.

Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence MP3 meditations and distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

  • Sunday 16th June, Leyleten-Nuktah, Night of the Tear Drop

Sunday 16th June is the Egyptian night, known as Leyleten-Nuktah, the Night of the Tear Drop. A miraculous tear-drop as Aset (Isis) began the mourning of her brother/husband Asar (Osirus), was believed to fall into the Nile causing it to rise and bring new life to the land. Sources vary as to whether this is 14th/16th/17th or 18th June; the date is actually the 11th day of the Ancient Egyptian month of Ba-oo-neh, so the confusion arises when trying to convert this to our Gregorian calendar.

  • Sunday 18th August, Egyptian Feast of Wagy

Egyptian DeitiesSunday 18th August is the Egyptian Feast of Wagy.

Taking place seventeen days after the Egyptian celebrations of New Year's Day, there was the more sombre feast of Wagy, when families paid respect to their ancestors.

They came to the tombs of the deceased, with offerings, performing rituals, specifically "fumigations" - producing fumes - smoke.

The ceremonies were often followed by a funerary meal.
