  • Annual Meteor Showers

Zikiel croppedMeteor Showers take place at the same sort of time every year, but what changes is the light conditions depending on proximity to the Full Moon (dates for this year listed under Angela McGerr's Full Moon Angelic Meditation with Gabriel)  or New Moon (dates for this year listed under New Moon Abundance Ritual). See below for chronological order of the annual showers. Two excellent sites for details each year are Earthsky Website - I usually use their excellent radiant point images (with permission from Deborah Byrd) and Time and Date. Both give great instructions for maximising your viewing opportunities.  I usually insert a link in the Harmony Blog to the correct page for the current shower, where is the links above are generic.

Watching meteors can be  a very therapeutic way to spend an evening. Choose the darkest spot available and check on one of the sites whether you are in location from where they can be seen (assuming minimal light pollution from street lights, large neighbouring towns etc.), the direction to look in (radiant point) and whether the best time for that shower is after midnight or just pre-dawn. When our girls were young, we would take some sun loungers out into the garden with hot drinks and duvets and lie outside for hours making some wonderful memories. The Perseids are the easiest ones to use for this as it's School Holidays and hopefully ambient weather, at least it should be here in the UK.  In the Southern hemisphere I guess the Quadrantids, Draconids or Orionids might be a better choice.

Remember, even if you can't see anything during a Meteor Shower, there will be an impact energetically.

You can invoke the Angel Zikiel (Angel Guardian of Meteors and Asteroids) to help bring in new ideas. The image of Zikiel (right) is by Richard Rockwood from Angela McGerr's Heart & Soul Angel Cards.

Zikiel guides the comets and meteorites in their eternal passage through space, tracking man's galactic origins. Zikiel therefore offers you a visionary flash of inspiration from the Sky.

You can invoke Zikiel by calling his name three times (pronunciation = Zick ee el) and adding 'I call upon you to be with me now, 'in love & light, in love & light, in love and light'.

If you have a clear quartz (or better still moldavite if you have any), you can programme it with Zikiel's name and keep it with you to help capture any inspiration thoughts channelled from the heavens tonight and also to help your heart to make the right choices.

This ritual is taken from Angela McGerr's An Angel For Every Day - now out of print and in very short supply.

However, we do still have some of Angela's out of print titles (generally also personally signed by her) and I do have limited 'pre-loved' copies of some titles available via Harmony Healing Shop.

Skywatching with other interested parties develops a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians to bring balance and harmony. We have a number of virtual courses including monthly virtual healing circles (online event for personal and global healing plus Joanna endeavours to get everyone into a unity consciousness experience) and also Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing Level 1which is now fully available as interactive training modules, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

  • Tuesday 21st/Wednesday 22nd April, is the Peak of Lyrid Meteors

Tuesday 21st (late) until dawn Wednesday 22nd April - Lyrids Meteor Shower. The Lyrids are an average shower, usually producing about 20 meteors per hour at their peak. These meteors can produce bright dust trails that last for several seconds. This year the shower peaks on the night of April 21st/22nd, although some meteors can be visible from April 16th - 25th. Look for meteors radiating from the constellation of Lyra after midnight.  Lack of light pollution from the proximity of the New Moon on the 23rd April this year will greatly help viewing in 2020.  See EarthSky.org for more

Observation of the Lyrid Meteor Shower goes back over 2700 years! The Ancient Chinese are said to have recorded the Lyrid meteors “falling like rain” in the year 687 BC.

Even if you can't see anything, there will be an impact energetically. The weather here in the UK this week has been fabulous with clear blue skies; if it continues tonight we could be in for a treat.

  • Wednesday 8th April (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning), Easter Alder Supermoon @ 03.35

Wednesday 8th April @ 03.35 (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning) UK time (which is currently GMT/UT + 1) Is Easter Alder Full Moon and Supermoon.

This moon will be at it's closest @ 19.08 UK time, on Tuesday April 7th (reaching 357,035 km distance from Earth at its Apogee),and coming only 8.5 hours before the moon reaches lunar perigee (see note below), it's the second of three Supermoons this year and it will be the closest and brightest Supermoon of 2020 (sources:Earthsky.org and timeanddate.com).

A Supermoon is when the moon appears larger in the sky because it is reaches the closest proximity to Earth (known as the perigee*) coinciding with the New Moon or Full Moon. Since the New Moon is only a sliver to the naked eye, the Full Moon Supermoons are much more of a visual treat, when the moon may appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than on any other Full Moon occasion. Although it may not seem all that noticeable to us and of course it will depend on good clear viewing conditions; however due to an optical illusion, it will always look bigger and more luminous when closer to the horizon.

*The moon orbits around the Earth in an ellipse which takes just over 29 days, meaning that it reaches points in the year when it is at its closest (perigee, when it is about 363,000 km away) and furthest (apogee, when it is about 405,500 KM) from our planet. Those old enough might be reminded of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks when Angela Lansbury mentions the perigee and apogee in one of her invocations!

This full moon fixes the date for Easter, as Easter Sunday is always immediately after the first full moon following the Equinox (Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere). So Easter Sunday will be 12th April. This year, that moon appears on Thursday 8th April, which means Easter Sunday falls four days later, on Sunday April 12th. So that makes this Full Moon the Paschal Moon.

The Celts had names for each Full Moon of the year, this is the Alder Moon.  At this time of year the Alder is prominent and flourishing on the river banks, with its roots dipping in the water, offering itself up as a magical bridge between heaven and earth. Known as Fearn (pronounced Faerin) it is associated with Faerie Magic; an ideal time for spiritual decision-making relating to divination and prophesy, as well as for honing our intuitive skills. Alder twigs and flowers are well known charms in Faerie Lore, with Alder shoots being used to make whistles and flutes to commune with the air elementals. More about this at thoughtco.com and Celtic Weirdness website which seem to show the same basic information.  I'm not sure which one is the original source (if either).

Similarly, Native American tribes named each moon to keep track of the months and seasons. There isn't a standardised system however, as some tribes took a year to be 12 moon cycles, whilst others went with 13 moon cycles. Similarly some tribes worked with five seasons per year whereas others went with four. According to telegraph.co.ukApril's full moon is known as the Pink Moon, but don't be fooled into thinking it will turn pink. It's actually named after pink wildflowers (generally phlox), which appear in North America in early spring. In 2020, the Pink Moon will also be the second full supermoon Full Moon of the year and always appears during the same month as the Lyrid meteor shower.

It is also known as the Egg Moon, due to spring egg-laying season. Some coastal tribes referred to it as Fish Moon because it appeared at the same time as the shad swimming upstream.

Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body.

Anyway, whatever the weather conditions, it's a fantastic excuse to get people of all ages outside in the fresh air and re-connecting with nature. Something our modern lifestyles and obsession with technology can distract us from doing...

Aligning ourselves with the moon cycle is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) and the New moon (good for starting new projects) is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.
