  • 21st January, New Moon, Chinese New Year & start of our New Year Lunar Cycle Alignment Programme

21st Jan New Year ImageSaturday 21st January is the New Moon @ 20:53. It's also a New Moon Supermoon, as it will be in February (more about that next month)

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy.

There are video instructions on my You Tube Page.

The New Moon is great time for creating a personal or corporate Vision Board for 2023. See Vision Board (downloadable instructions on this page)This is something we do as part of our New Year New Moon New Vision course starting tonight.

It's also the last day of the Chinese Year of the Water Tiger.

Sunday 22nd February is the Chinese and Japanese Lunar New Year, following the New Moon. Celebrate with vegetarian snacks and fireworks, drums and cymbals from sunset onwards. Spring clean your house in preparation and decorate with strips of red paper with messages of long life, health, wealth & happiness. Visit friends and family, buy new clothes, especially shoes and settle debts.

The actual date of the Chinese New Year (also called the Spring Festival) changes from year to year.  This is because it is determined by the lunisolar Chinese calendar.  The festivities usually start the day before the New Year and continue until the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the New Year.

Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals, which are rotated from those in the Chinese zodiac. Similar to the Western zodiac, the Chinese zodiac is divided into 12 houses, but with the major difference being that each house lasts one year instead of one month.  In addition each year is allocated one of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) and these are changed every two years. So after the New Year has occurred:

Years ending in the numbers 4 or 5 = Wood
Years ending in the numbers 6 or 7 = Fire
Years ending in the numbers 8 or 9 = Earth
Years ending in the numbers 0 or 1 = Metal
Years ending in the numbers 2 or 3 = Water

New Moon image cropped toghtThe year just ending is the Water Tiger.

This will be the New Year of the Water Rabbit, which will last until Friday 9th February 2024. Chinese Zodiac expert Nicholas Haines describes the Year of The Water Rabbit as a time to breed Magic and Miracles.

Red is an auspicious colour and can be worn to bring energy, luck & happiness.

The Chinese calendar rotates through 60-year cycles based on 12 earthly branches, each represented by an animal year, as well as five element years which are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. 2020 was the year of the Metal Rat, 2021 was the Year of the Metal Ox. We moved into the water element last uear with the Water Tiger. Each earthly branch is characterised, on a deeper level, by a yin or yang force and its own element.

In order, the 12 zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Hence the sign of the Rabbit is the fourth animal of the Chinese zodiac and representslongevity, peace and prosperity in their culture. 2023 is predicted to be a Year of Hope, but requires us to take specific actions to avoid a weakness within the Water Rabbit.

In Chinese culture, homes are thoroughly cleaned at the New Year to sweep away old ill fortune to make room for coming good luck, and fireworks are set off, and red (sometimes with gold) is worn to ward off evil monsters and bad luck. To find out more about the Year of the Water Rabbit, join the Conscious Café online event (from £9.21 if bought in advance, rising to £11./37 on the door) on 24th January, in which Nicholas Baines will predict what to expect in this auspicious year.

Aligning ourselves with the lunar cycle as well as community celebrations is very therapeutic and is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

Start the year with some direction and support from a nurturing group of like-minded individuals. New Year New Moon New Vision is a mentoring programme through the first full lunar cycle of 2023. This includes distant attunements to the Moon (New Moons on 21st January and 20th February plus Full Moon on Sunday 6th February), and including an attunement into Chinese New Year of the Water Rabbit (21st/22nd January) and an elemental ritual Imbolc ceremony. Costing £177 (concessions for my students and course repeaters), find out more via our YouTube Video. Due to the advance preparation required, this courseis now closed to new participants, except for repeaters.

March CF HH coloursAs we progress into April, a theme emerges which venerates spring, renewal and fertility as well as nourishment. Known for April Fool’s Day and April Showers, the month often hosts Easter, as it does this year. In the forest, we start to see (and smell) the beautiful bluebells, a marker of ancient woodland, which generally reach their full splendour in May.

The month of April was supposedly named after the Roman Goddess Venus (leading to Her Veneralia festival on 1st April), originally named Aphrilis after her equivalent Greek Goddess Aphrodite (Aphros) or the Etruscan version Apru. To the Anglo-Saxons, April was called Easter-mōnaþ "Easter Month", "Month of the Goddess Ēostre".  No prizes for guessing which Christian Festival took its name from this annual festival.

April begins with April Fool's Day plus the Roman Festivals of Veneralia & Fortuna Virilis, as well as Easter Monday also on 1st April. In the Roman calendar, April also hosted Magna Mater on the 4th & Floralia on 28th, widely believed to be connected to Beltane. April is also a month for some international awareness days including Autism Awareness Day on 2nd, World Health Day on the 7th and Earth Day on 22nd. In the UK, we celebrate St George's Day and Shakespeare's birthday on 23rd. For those who celebrate the chance to get outdoors, we have a Total Solar Eclipse on the night of 8th April (though not fully visible in the UK), the Lyrids Meteor Shower peaking, as usual 21st April, and Full Moon on Wednesday 24th at 00:48 (hence our Full Moon Meditation is evening of 23rd). We have our Forest Bathing public session at Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary's private woodland (near Shere, Surrey) on Saturday 20th April when there should definitely be bluebells, of which there are thousands at Harry Edwards. We have Saturday 4th May reserved for anyone wanting to gather together a group for their own exclusive private bluebell session.

For a more in-depth analysis of the listed festivals and spiritually significant days, such as April Fool's Day and Veneralia, I publish a blog post on the day in question. Or to receive the information to your mail inbox, sign-up for Blog update alerts.

April FoolMonday 1st April is April Fool’s day.

A day for practical jokes, April Fools Day may originate from the move from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar.

This moved the start of the year almost three months, from the Spring Equinox to the start of January! Those who refused to recognise the new calendar and still saw April as the start of the year were labelled "April Fools".

Much about this in our specific Blog post on 1st April.

Veneralia Fortuna Virilis 1st AprilMonday 1st April, in addition to being April Fool’s Day, is also the Roman celebration of Veneralia and Fortuna Virilis.

Both celebrations seem loosely connected with Venus who is honoured on this day and whose advice is sought on matters of love.

Easter Monday 5th AprilMonday 1st April, in 2024, is also Easter Monday, this is Bank holiday in the UK.

As mentioned in an earlier Blog, whereas the Easter celebration in the UK is based on the Gregorian Calendar, the Orthodox Easter celebrations are based on the Julian Calendar. The Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar to determine their holy days. Easter for the Orthodox Church will always fall sometime between April 4th and May 8th each year, this year it's really late, Friday 3rd May - Monday 6th May.

2nd April Autism Awareness DayTuesday 2nd Aprilis World Autism Awareness Day, taking place annually on April 2nd since 2008. It was set up to encourage Member States of the United Nations to raise awareness about autistic individuals throughout the world.

Whilst the United Kingdom celebrates Autism Awareness Week around World Autism Day, other countries, including the United States, celebrate World Autism Month throughout April.

A suggested way to demonstrate that you support people on the autism spectrum is to wear blue. This could be a special blue shirt you can purchase from a nonprofit like Autism Speaks or simply a blue ribbon or some blue clothing.

Thursday 4th April is Magna Mater in the Roman calendar.Magna Mater 4th April

This is the festival of Cybele, Phrygian Great Earth Mother. Her priests took on female clothes and identities to commemorate her lover (or in siome sources her son) Attis, who was castrated and died of the wounds but was later resurrected.

Lyrids 21st AprilSunday 21st (late) until dawn Monday 22nd April is the Lyrids Meteor Shower.

The Lyrids are an average shower, usually producing about 20 meteors per hour at their peak.

These meteors can produce bright dust trails that last for several seconds. This year the shower peaks on the night of April 21st/22nd, although some meteors can be visible from April 16th - 25th.

Look for meteors radiating from the constellation of Lyra after midnight, the later you view in the morning of the 22nd, less meteors will be below the horizon and therefore more will be visible but as sunrise approaches light pollution will hamper viewing.

The proximity of the Full Moon on the 23rdApril, means light pollution could make viewing difficult, however there is a possibility of 10-15 per hour! See earthsky.com for more. Best time to watch: late evening to dawn on the nights of April 21st-22nd and 22nd-23rd.

Earth Day 22nd AprilMonday 22nd April is Earth Day, which is heralded as a pivotal opportunity for people, corporations and governments to join together to create a global green economy.

The theme for 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics. This calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion, see more at earthday.org.

It is hoped that coordinated efforts now will be recognized by future generations as a turning point.

Shakespeares birthdayTuesday 23rd April is St George’s Day in England, celebrating England's patron saint, St George. England's National Day is celebrated on the anniversary of his death, which is on April 23rd.

Shakespeares birthdayAccording to legend, St George was a soldier in the Roman army who killed a dragon and saved a princess. The English flag is the red Cross of St. George, which is widely displayed as a symbol of national identity.

It's also supposedly Shakespeare's birthday and deathday.

However, 23rd April is not a Bank Holiday.

23 April Full Moon meditationTuesday 23rd April, 7.30-9.30pm UK time (GMT+1) is our Full Moon Unity Consciousness Meditation, as the Full Moon is happening in the early hours of Wednesday.

During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. Participants all receive a deeply healing experience. Cost to participate is £20 by online BACS payment (£1 admin fee added for PayPal, concessions to RSE/VFoA graduates), book at the Harmony Shop.

This activity serves as a good taster of Joanna's work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. And, most importantly, it's a step towards making a difference to the global predicament. To find out how working on your own spiritual consciousness can help humanity and the planet by raising the overall human consciousness levels, see Joanna's You Tube explanation.

Pink Full MoonWednesday 24th April at 00:48 (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning) UK time (GMT+1), is :Pink Full Moon. We are holding our Full Moon Meditation the night before, see entry above. Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body.

For details of Full Moon timings for the year, as well as instructions for an Angela McGerr Angelic Meditation with Gabriel, see Harmony Healing Full Moon link.

Floralia 28th AprilSunday 28th Aprilis the Roman fertility festival of flowers and crops called Floralia, that later developed into celebration of sexuality, and may have influenced the subsequent celebrations for Beltane and May Day.

Bright coloured clothes are worn (if any!), races and shows are performed.

Beltane 30th AprilTuesday 30th April, is the Pagan Eve of Beltane; celebrations begin with people dancing around the fire clockwise, singing. Sometimes two fires are set, and cattle are driven between the fires to purify them.

Dew gathered from the grass at dawn is used in potions for luck and indeed it is believed to be lucky to roll naked in the dew!!!  On Beltane, it is traditional to drink from a well before sunrise.

Wash in the morning dew, and adorn yourself with greenery. Watch the sun come up, dance round the Maypole, and otherwise abandon yourself to the season.

Round Full Moon Cakes are eaten and blackberry, elderberry, dandelion wine or cider is drunk. Sacred springs are visited and healing water is drunk.

March CF is hereDuring March, we can look forward to extended daylight and the awakening of nature, especially in the forest. As well as new green buds and sprouts on the trees, we start to see new growth at ground level, with a plethora of camelias, hellabores, daffodils, narcissi, hyacinths and daphne; some with a lovely subtle fragrance. And even where trees have fallen this last week, following three successive violent storms here in the UK, it will be amazing to observe the speed with which new saplings will appear to fill the spaces.

The Roman Calendar originally started in March and the month was named after Mars, the Roman God of War. To the Anglo-Saxons, March was called 'Hrēðmonath', named after a pagan fertility Goddess called 'Hreða' (also known as Rheda).

March begins with the Welsh celebration of St David's Day as well as the Roman Festival of Matronalia. March was a busy month in the Roman calendar, indeed, there’s even a festival for Roman Matrons (older married women) to celebrate by turning the household hierarchy of their day on its head. March is also a month for celebrating women in the modern calendar, with International Women’s Day (8th), Mothering Sunday (26th) and the celebration of numerous goddesses, Egyptian (5th & 20th) and Roman (1st, 15th, 17th & 19th). The Irish celebrate on 17th with St Patrick's Day. This year we have Easter 29th March - 1st April (different for Orthodox Easter).

We have Nature ConnectionForest Bathing events scheduled this month on the 17th at Harry Edwards, (Shere, Surrey).

For a deep dive into the ‘whys and wherefores’ of the listed festivals and spiritually significant days, I publish a blog post on the day in question. Or to receive the information to your mail inbox, sign-up for Blog update alerts.

Full Moon is Monday 25th March, peaking at 07:00. There's no Full Moon Guided Meditation this month, because I will be at the site of Stalag Luft III WWII POW camp (now in Poland) for the 80th Anniversary of the Great Escape.  I am giving two addresses to an assembly of RAF Officers relating to my father's POW experiences at the camp.

St Davids Day 1st MarchFriday 1st March is St David’s Day. St. David, Dewi Sant, is the patron saint of the Welsh, and 1st March, his feast day, is celebrated as a patriotic and cultural festival in Wales.

Saint David, Grandson of the King of Ceredigion, was said to have been born on a clifftop during a fierce storm. He died on this day during the year 500. He grew up to be a celebrated Bishop and founder of monastic settlements and churches. Glastonbury Abbey may have been founded by St David.

So why is David associated with a dragon? There is a myth that when David was asked by villagers to slay a dragon, he instead went to visit the dragon and listen to its sad tale.

Matronalia 1st MarchFriday 1st March is also Matronalia, according to Roman tradition, which was the topsy-turvy feast sacred to Juno, the birth Goddess.

It was also a celebration of marriage, and the peace that these unions could usher in between Romans and Sabini, tribes from the mountain region near the Tibor.

The Roman mistress of the house waited on her servants for the day and presents were given to other people’s partners!

The wives of the house also gave a feast for their female slaves.

    5th March Ploiaphesia framed

Tuesday 5th March is Ploiaphesia, Egyptian Festival of Navigation. This was when one of the most important festivals of the Egyptian Goddess Isis was celebrated, the Ploiaphesia or Navigium Isidis (Ship of Isis).

The festival marked the opening of the safe sailing season after the stormy weather of winter had passed. A statue of Isis was carried in procession from her temple down to the harbour, where a specially-built ship was moored. The ship would then be loaded with offerings and dedicated to the Goddess, before being launched and carried out to sea by the wind.

The festival is described by Apuleius in his Metamorphoses (also known as the Golden Ass). To participate you can enjoy the energy of water and celebrate with processions, lights, mirrors, music and flowers. We have informative Egyptian Deity Posters available for sale from the Harmony Shop. explanation.

IWD 8th MarchFriday 8th March is International Women’s Day; a day designated to celebrate the empowerment of women worldwide.

The theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. From the website:

When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world.

And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

Collectively, let's forge a more inclusive world for women.

See the International Women’s Day website for more. Or for other inspiring ideas,seewomenforwomen.org.

04 Nov New Moon SupermoonSunday 10th March @ 09:00 is New Moon. It's also a Supermoon.

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. Image by Harmony Healing.

It is a good day for creating a personal or corporate Vision Board for 2024. Harmony Healing proviides a Vision Board template and periodically we offer a lunar cycle mentoring programme.

Mothers Day 14thSunday 10th March is also Mothering Sunday in  the UK, now viewed as a chance to recognise the positive role of mothers in our lives.

Often posies of daffodils are presented.

Mothering Sunday is celebrated by Christians  in the UK & Ireland and some other English speaking countries. It takes place on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which is exactly three weeks before Easter Day.

It was once observed as a day when people visited their mother church, but has become a day for honouring mothers and exchanging presents with them. Increasingly it's being referred to as Mother's Day, although that name originated as an American secular holiday, celebrated on a different date and quite distinct from the initial UK based Mothering Sunday.

Friday 15th March was the Ides of March in Roman tradition and a Festival to Jupiter. Anna Perenna etc. 15th

Shakespeare had a soothsayer warn Julius Caesar 'Beware the Ides of March'. Indeed he was reputedly assassinated on 15th March 44 BC.

In Ancient Rome, 15th March was also the celebration ofAnna Perenna.

Offerings were made to the Spirit of the Year, so that the circle could be completed.

St Patricks Day used 2021Sunday 17th March is St Patrick’s Day in Ireland. St Patrick is credited with converting the Irish back to Christianity which had been abandoned under Roman rule.

Saint Patrick is said to have used the Shamrock (three leaved clover) as a metaphor for the Christian Trinity.

The name shamrock comes from the Irish word seamróg, which is derived from the Irish word for clover (seamair) and means simply "little clover" or "young clover".

Liberalia 17 MarchSunday 17th March was also the Roman Festival of Liberalia, this was the feast to celebrate the male coming of age!

In view of the date coinciding with St Patrick's Day, having abandoned Christianity under Roman rule, I wonder if there is a connection that when Eire re-converted to Christianity they chose the Roman Festival for males coming of age as their date of celebration...

Considering the theme of rebirthing and the Spring Equinox, I can't help wondering if it was a development from the Egyptian Pelusia Festival, see 20th March entry.

Tuesday 19th Marchis the Roman Festival of Quinquatrus,so named because it was the 5th day after the Ides of March. Quinquatrus 19th March

This was a Festival in honour of Minerva; it seems that women were accustomed to consult fortune-tellers and diviners upon this day.

At one time, celebrations took place 19th - 23rd of March, orginally an Etruscan festival to celebrate spring, rites of women, rebirthing and the Spring Equinox. I can't help wondering if it was a development from the Egyptian Pelusia Festival, see 20th March entry.

Pagan EquinoxWednesay 20th March is Spring Equinox at 03:06. On the Equinox, light and dark are equal over the whole world: mark the moment of the Equinox with silence and stillness.

Representing balance of opposites; it's a good time to bring balance into your life.

Pelusia 20thMonday 20th March is the Egyptian Festival of Pelusia, with the Egyptian Goddess Isis working her spring magic to ensure the flooding of the Nile later in the year, thereby guaranteeing a fruitful harvest.

We have informative Egyptian Deity Posters available for sale from the Harmony Shop.

IDF image 2Thursday 21st March is International Day of Forests, sponsored by the United Nations. The theme for 2024 is ‘Forests and Innovation’.

Forests are home to more that 60,000 tree species; comprising about 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.

In fact, 1.6 billion people are directly dependent on forests for their shelter, food, medicines, income and energy.  Alarmingly, we are losing around 10 million hectares of global forest annually (the size of Iceland) and this is said to account for 12-20% of greenhouse gas emissions thought to contribute to our climate change.

As a qualified Forest Bathing guide, I am delighted to see Forests being recognised for their wellbeing benefits and valuable biodiversity and efforts being made to protect dwindling international woodlands.

Alec Bristow the Great EscapeSunday 24th March,80 years ago today, during the night of 24 March 1944, 76 airmen escaped out of the Prisoner of War camp Stalag Luft III. The event was immortalised by the 1963 Hollywood blockbuster The Great Escape, which was partly fictional but a surprising amount of astounding activities depicted in the film were based on fact. Of the 76, only three made it home and, of the remainder, 50 were murdered on Hitler’s orders, in direct contravention of the Geneva Convention. Joanna's father, Alec Bristow, was a WWII Mosquito Pilot, imprisoned in the camp at the time, and Joanna offers a popular talk on his memoirs of the occasion. She will be giving two addresses to RAF officers, at the museum located at original location of the camp (now in Poland) as part of the 80th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony.

Sunday 24th March, this year, is also Palm Sunday in the Christian Calendar this year. Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, is the 6th Sunday of Lent and the final Sunday before Easter.

Traditionally it marks the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

The name is believed to commemorate the placement of palm leaves on the road to soften the surface for the donkey on which he was riding.

Equinox worm moonMonday 25th March@ 07:00 is Worm Full Moon and a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. The start of the eclipse will be visible in London (from about 05:00) until the Moon dips below the horizon, see Time and Date for details.

Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body.

For details of Full Moon timings for the year, as well as instructions for an Angela McGerr Angelic Meditation with Gabriel, see Harmony Healing Full Moon link.

Good Friday 2nd AprilFriday 29th March, this year, is also the Christian Festival of Good Friday, which is a Bank Holiday in the UK as part of the Easter break.

This commemorates the day when Jesus was crucified.

It was not called ‘Good Friday’ until 4th Century and may be a corruption of God’s Friday.

Easter Saturday 3rd AprilSaturday 30th March is Easter Saturday in the Christian Calendar.

It commemorates the day that Jesus was buried in a tomb following his crucifixion.

Last weekend in MarchSaturday 30th March, in the UK this year, is also when the clocks go forward.

In fact at 01.00 on Sunday 31st March is the start of British Summer Time/.

However, we often have a while to wait until summer arrives in the UK.

hare triscol by Jackie MorrisSunday 31st March is Easter Sunday, which is generally taken to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus three days after his crucifixion. Intriguingly, Easter Sunday is not a set date but is calculated according to the Lunar cycle, so it can move around between 22nd March and 25th April. It's fixed as the Sunday following the first Full Moon after the Vernal (Spring) Equinox. Coptic Easter, celebrated by the Orthodox Church is usually a week later.

This points to the celebration being linked to an earlier Pagan celebration, which were all associated with seasons and moon cycles.  The name Easter itself is derived from the Pagan God Eostre. the Easter Egg is reminiscent of the Pagan egg to symbolise fertility. And of course, the Easter Bunny, a strange addition to a crucifixion story, makes a lot more sense when viewed as a sign of spring, and possibly even a hare. Watch my YouTube presentation: Was Easter superimposed into an earlier Pagan Festival?

The Hare is another ancient symbol of fertility, with a 28 day gestation period very linked to the lunar cycle.

In Ancient Egypt the hare is a hieroglyph meaning ‘existence’

May CF is readyMay is a month when our Pagan heritage breaks through into parochial folklore. 1st May is Beltane, also known as May Day, with the UK Bank Holiday being the first Monday of the month. Beltane a Pagan Festival still celebrated in parishes across the country featuring elaborate traditions involving May Poles, floral-dressed girls bedecked with flower garlands, Morris Dancers, Green Man imagery, hobby horses etc. We usher in the promise of sunshine and summer as we welcome green shoots and abundant blossom everywhere, not least the Mayflower (Hawthorn) associated with the old adage, ne'er cast a clout till May be out (which I always assumed meant the month itself)...

The month could be named after Maia, a Greek Goddess linked with the land, fertility and growth. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called Thrimilci, the month when cows could be milked three times a day due to constant grazing on abundant new grass.

During May, as well as our own British Traditional Pagan Festivals (1st, 4th, 16th, 29th) plus Mental Health Awareness Week (13th-19th) and we can look forward to Roman (1st, 9th & 15th), Egyptian (14th) & Romani/French (24th) celebrations. Skywatchers can enjoy the Aquariid Meteors peaking on the 5th May. Our Full Moon Online Guided Meditation is 7.30-9.30pm UK time on Thursday 23rd May.

We have Surrey Forest Bathing events with Bluebells at Harry Edwards on Saturday 4th May (for a group of up to 10 people) and Sunday 19th May. We can organise other dates subject to availability of the site.

May Day BeltaneWednesay 1st Mayis May Day andBeltane - a Celtic word meaning 'fires of Bel' (Bel was a Celtic deity). It is a fire festival that celebrates the coming of summer and the fertility of the coming year. Celtic festivals often tied in with the needs of the community. In springtime, at the beginning of the farming calendar, everybody would be hoping for a fruitful year for their fields and hence also their families. Beltane rituals would often include courting: for example, young men and women collecting blossoms in the woods and lighting fires in the evening. These rituals would often lead to matches and marriages, either immediately or in the coming summer or autumn.

Festivals frequently on the early May Bank Holiday in the UK (the first Monday on/after 1st May), when many towns and villages offering May Day celebrations.

Jack in the Green procession, Hastings, 2022

Jack in the Green Festival is held in Hastings, with four days of festivities around the May Day weekend, this year Friday 3rd - Monday 6th May. Since its revival in the 1980s the festival has become synonymous with the town of Hastings and is now one of its largest events. T

Over the long weekend there is morris dancing around the town, a traditional ceilidh and a sunrise ceremony to welcome in the dawn of summer on Monday 1st May. Bank holiday Monday is the highlight as the town turns green. A grand procession leads the giant foliage-covered Jack through the Old Town and up to the West Hill, where he is eventually 'slain' and the spirit of summer is released! Image of the jack in the Green on the street parade, when we visited in 2022.

Hastings Jack in the Green is a hugely popular event so local roads and the A21 can get congested and car parking around the town is limited.

Bona Dea 1st MayWednesday 1st Maywas also the annual Roman Festival of Bona Dea. In Roman mythology, Bona Dea (literally "the good goddess") was the goddess of fertility, healing, virginity, and women. She was the daughter of the god Faunus and was associated with supplying medicinal healing herbs in her temple garden. Bona Dea was traditionally invoked for freedom from slavery; many of her worshippers were freed slaves and plebeians, and several were women seeking aid in sickness or for fertility. This Festival was celebrated by women only!

Veneration of the ThornSaturday 4th May, is the festival of the Veneration of the Thorn at which the Hawthorn is honoured.

This is a festival of modern origin that may have been adapted from the night of Lunantisidhe on 16th May, honouring the fairy spirits of Hawthorns.

Holy bushes and trees marking sacred places and wells are acknowledged and new scraps of cloth are tied to their branches.

AquaridsSunday 5th/Monday 6th May (specifically Sunday night / Monday morning) is the peak of the ETA Aquariid Meteor Shower, see rmg.org or EarthSky Website.Predominantly, this is a pre-dawn shower, that is one where the meteors may occur in the dark hour before dawn.

The best display will rain down on the morning of the 6th May (between midnight on the 5th and dawn on the 6th) and with New moon on the 8th May, there will be minimal light pollution so visibility could be good, but these ETA Aquariids can appear any time between 24th April and 20th May.

Sham El Nassim 5th AprilMonday 6th May,in Egypt, is the ancient festival of Sham El Nassim (literally meaning "smelling of the breeze") which dates back to Pharaonic times (about 2700 BC) although it is celebrated on the Coptic Easter Monday, generally a week after our Easter Monday, but this year over a month later.

It's not seen as a religious festival as it's a National Holiday for both Egyptian Christians and Muslims.

Traditional activities include painting eggs, picnicking, and eating feseekh (fermented mullet).

Wednesday 8th May @ 04:21 (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning) is a Beltane New Supermoon. Pagan Dark Moon 13th 2

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon.

It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy.

There are video instructions on my Facebook Page and/or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board for the rest of 2024.

9th May LemuriaThursday 9th Mayis the Roman Festival of Lemuria.

This involved a ritual by the Master (or Mistress) of the House with nine black beans(!) to honour the Lemures – spirits of those who died unnatural or violent deaths.

I wondered if it was connected to the ancient land of Lemuria, believed to have been situated in the Pacific area near Hawaii, and a possible belief by the Romans that the land may have been destroyed violently (legend says that, like Atlantis, a disaster such as volcanic eruption or flood caused its destruction).

  • Friday 12th February, Chinese New Year of the Ox

Chinese New Year w goldFriday 12th February is Chinese, and Japanese, New Year of the Metal Ox which will last until Sunday 30th January 2022. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2021 is more of a lucky year for men and women born in the Year of the Ox, the Year of the Snake, the Year of the Rooster, and the Year of the Rat. Chinese New Year image by Antonia Skelton.

The Chinese calendar rotates through 60-year cycles based on 12 earthly branches, each represented by an animal year, as well as five element years which are wood, fire, earth, metal and water.  2020 was the Year of the Metal Rat and 2021 is the Year of the Metal Ox. Each earthly branch is characterised, on a deeper level, by a yin or yang force and its own element.

In the Year of the Rat, the force was the active, fast and hard, masculine yang energy whilst its element was water, known for being in constant flux. The ox’s earthly branch, in contrast, carries yin energy, which is feminine energy that is passive, soft and slow. Its element is earth, represents stability and nurturing. It is believed these characteristics of the ox and its associated energies have positive and favourable synergy.

The sign of the Ox is the second animal of the Chinese zodiac and represents hard work, positivity and honesty that will be manifested in all of us in the coming 12 months, according to astrologers. In order, the 12 zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

The Chinese Astrological year is governed by the lunar cycles. Aligning ourselves with the moon cycle is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the New moon (good for starting new projects) and Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the next virtual healing circle later this month on Friday 26th February, at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £10 (+ £1 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

If you would like to experience one of our spiritual offerings (meditation, reading, 1:1 healing, a Forest Bathing+ session or a full mentoring course), why not ask for a Harmony Healing gift voucherfor a birthday or other celebratory occasion?

A number of virtual courses are now ready, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

Friday 22nd May @ 18.39 UK time (GMT/UT+1) is New Moon.

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy.

There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board (downloadable instructions on this page) for the rest of 2020. Hopefully a move towards a world where we can move freely again and are enjoying a global economic recovery.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

04 Nov New Moon SupermoonFriday 9th February @ 07:05 is New Moon and it's also a Super New Moon.

If you feel connected to the lunar cycle, note that our next Full Moon Unity Consciousnesss Guided Meditation (£20), 7.30-9.30pm (GMT) is on Saturday 24th February, when you will be guided though a mindful chakra healing programme, using colours and crystal energy. You will then be connected above (to the Sky) and below (to the Earth) to be part of the Harmony Healing Lightworker collective and start making a difference by sending regular global healing.

This is the final day of our New Year New Moon New Vision (see our YouTube Video to find out more)a mentoring programme through the first full lunar cycle of 2024. This culminates in a distant attunement to the Sun, Moon, Earth, stars, the current zodiac (Aquarius) and theChinese New Year of the Wood Dragon. You can receive this final Equilibrium Attunement for a special price of £44 (50% concessions for my students/graduates and course repeaters). Book at the Harmony Shop.

A Supermoon is when the moon appears larger in the sky because it is reaches the closest proximity to Earth (known as the perigee*) coinciding with the New Moon or Full Moon. Since the New Moon is only a sliver to the naked eye, the Full Moon Supermoons are much more of a visual treat, when the moon may appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than on any other Full Moon occasion. Although it may not seem all that noticeable to us and of course it will depend on good clear viewing conditions; however due to an optical illusion, it will always look bigger and more luminous when closer to the horizon.

*The moon orbits around the Earth in an ellipse which takes just over 29 days, meaning that it reaches points in the year when it is at its closest (perigee, when it is about 363,000 km away) and furthest (apogee, when it is about 405,500 KM) from our planet. Those old enough might be reminded of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks when Angela Lansbury mentions the perigee and apogee in one of her invocations!

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

  • Monday 8th April is a New Moon & Supermoon @ 19:20, plus total solar eclipse.

Insta images inc moons 21Monday 8th April @ 19:20 is the Pink New Supermoon and a Total Solar Eclipse.

It's only a total solar eclipse in some parts of the world, visible only in Mexico, USA and Canada. According to Nasa, it will be the last total solar eclipse visible from all of USA until 2044. It will be partially visible from Europe, including the UK, as a partial eclipse. Find out more at Earthsky.com.

Even if we can't see much physically, there is always an energetic impact. Eclipses facilitate release of old karmic baggage, transformation and  renewal. It literally represents  the uncovering of events and emotions which have been suppressed and/or ignored.

Solar eclipses occur at the time of the New Moon, when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth, obscuring the view of the Sun from the Earth. This creates a metaphor that a Solar Eclipse obscures our vision forward, allowing an ideal opportunity to reflect on the present and relate it to our past in a beneficial way.  It's vital that this reflection is constructive and not the re-living of old pain, instead re-evaluate how much you have moved forward in the interim; looking for positive re-assessment and tangible progress on your life path.

  • New Moon & Chinese New Year, 15th/16th February 2018

Thursday 15th February is the New Moon @ 21.06.New Moon image cropped toght

This New Moon Abundance ritual  should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon.

It is a good day for creating a personal or corporate Vision Board for the remainder of 2018.

Friday 16th February is the Chinese and Japanese Lunar New Year, following the New Moon.

Years ending in the numbers 2 or 3 = Water

freepik.com chinese new year concept with golden dog 23 2147732447The year just ending is the Fire (or Red) Rooster.

This will be the New Year of the Golden (or Yellow, or in some areas Brown depending on the colour seen as best suited to the earth element) Earth Dog. The dog is independent, clever and sincere. As man's best friend they are seen as extremely devoted and loyal; they can be relied upon to stick with you. Dogs are also pack animals, but which sometimes like to run off on their own.

The Year of the Dog is the eleventh animal in the cycle. The next Year of the Dog will be in 2030. Dog image on the right is a background vector created by Freepik.

The element of Earth represents growth and nourishment, associated with harmony, practicality and hard work. Earth anchors and sustains you and seeks to nurture and be nurtured. According to chinesefortunecalendar.com,2018 is male earth dog and male earth is associated with dry soil, mounds, walls or mountains, so 2018 will be a very strong Earth. Hence events linked to real estate, land, agriculture, territories, minerals and earthquakes will be active. Chinese Astrology also connects Earth to meditation, stability and religion, so there will be a growth in religious and spiritual studies.

A hard working and loyal Dog, combined with the sensible and steady Earth indicates a rewarding, secure and profitable year. Apparently it's a year when projects can blossom and thrive! The Earth Dog combines the diligence and integrity of the dog with a 'down-to-earth' climate, ideal for enduring enterprises which require persistence and tenacity. Investments in real estate are favoured in the year of the golden dog.

So the advice is to take advantage of a year of unity, peace and goodwill which will reward those who are hard working and persistent. Those who have the courage to face challenges and persevere will be recompensed. For more on your Chinese astrology seechina-family-adventure.com.

According to MoscowTimes.com, after the 2017 Year of the Rooster, appertaining to eccentricities, whims and a fight for pecking order [which world leader(s) elected in during 2017 could that remind you of?], the year of the Golden Earth Dog has potential for more solidarity, communication and co-operation. However, dogfights could erupt from the alpha male issue and rival small-knit splinter groups could form.  But provided the alpha male run-ins can be avoided, 2018 could herald a year for brotherhood philosophies, industrial scale collaborations and new policies of social justice and empathy, so here's hoping...

London hosts the largest Chinese New Year Celebrations outside Asia.  With the exact time of the New Moon falling around 9pm on Thursday 15th January, New Years Eve will be celebrated from the 15th with New Year's Day on Friday 16th, but the London celebrations are happening on Sunday 18th. See this link for full details.

  • New Moon Abundance Ritual & Vision Boards

Moon Scarletts shotAbundance cheques are a tool we can use to create more abundance in our lives. They are written within 24 hours after a New Moon.  There are video instructions on my Harmony Healing Facebook Page.

Between New Moon and Full Moon, when the moon is waxing (getting larger), supports us getting energetically larger, i.e. manifestation and abundance. Hence the abundance ritual needs to be after the peak of the New Moon so that it is waxing.

Surprisingly, you don't need to believe that the cheque will work when you write it.

Apparently, you will be amazed at the results, as you will see increased abundance in your life, in some life area. It is not always financial, but certainly in an area that you need. There is a traditional manner, which has been handed down, that must be followed. If you do not have a bank account you can draw a cheque on a piece of paper and fill it out the same way - the results will be the same, more abundance for you.

1.) Within 24 hours after a New Moon, take a cheque from your cheque book. Where it says "Pay to," write your name.
2.) In the little box on the same line where you would fill in a UK Sterling amount write "Paid in full."
3.) On the line underneath your name, where you would write out a sterling amount in figures, write "Paid in full."
4.) Sign the cheque: "The Law of Abundance."

Do not put a date on the cheque. Do not write a specific amount in the cheque. Put it in a safe place and forget about it. The Universe will take it from there.

If you don't have a cheque book, or don't want to use up a cheque, you can write the information on any piece of paper (or even a virtual cheque in your imagination); it is the intent which counts.  Or you can click here for an A4 page showing three blank cheques with instructions.

Within 48 hours after a New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board, so this is a good time to create or update one for the rest of the calendar year. click here for a Vision Board template by Serafina Krupp based on the Bagua Map.

Aligning ourselves with the moon cycle is very therapeutic, hence being aware of the Full Moon (a good time for bringing projects to a conclusion) and the New Moon (good for starting new projects) is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

  • New Moon New Vision - starting 1st April

thumbnail new year new vision extra blue tiger 1

Set your intentions this New Moon!

The influence of the moon is well documented. From Dr Tom White’s pioneering work on circadian and circalunar rhythms, the effect of lunar cycles on menstruation, and Ferris Jabr’s studies of marine wildlife, to the ancient lore of the zodiac, angels, and the Mansions of the Moon.

The impact of the full moon on natural processes is well-known - something our ancestors recognised with names drawn from ancient life. The flower moon signified the start of spring, the frost moon heralded the first frost and the harvest moon, the time to bring in the produce. The Druids had numerous ceremonies celebrating the power of the moon.

Many myths and legends are based on the moon - tales of werewolves, words such as ‘lunatic’ and the notion of the Blue Moon. And it’s not just in the West. The Japanese celebrate Tsukimi or 'Moon Viewing’ every Full Moon. Even now, many people feel restless during a Full Moon, and as we can block out natural light with blinds and eye masks, we realise – it’s more than light, it’s energy.

We start on the New Moon of 1st April through to 30th April. We pass through the phases of the moon, drawing on the moon’s energies and sharing ours in return.

The programme includes distant attunements to the Sun, Moon, and Earth, the zodiac signs of Aries and Taurus (and their Guardian Angels Machidiel and Tual respectively) and the New Chinese Zodiac of the blue water Tiger (started 2nd February), plus Beltane Eve celebrations.

We will create a supportive space for a select group of participants and build on strengthening our intuition and resolve, drawing on ancient wisdom to balance our chakras, align ourselves to the moon cycle and to create our best life.

We will also include additional tools, with vision boards, new moon abundance rituals and the power of crystals and nature.

Friday 1st April, New Moon @ 07:27; start of our New Year New Moon Lunar Cycle Alignment Programme

We use an active WhatsApp group to work through the 28 Mansions of the Moon, (as identified in my sister Angela McGerr's Angel Almanac) and connect with the daily guardians of the lunar cycle.  This enables us to utilise the supportive energy of each lunar phase to move through life, embracing new opportunities.

Attuned and Aligned This is a fun and participative event, with members of the group supporting each other throughout. Participants will be joining from their homes, with at least 6 online group mentoring sessions with e-mail and What's App support.

We ran the course three times in 2021. Eight of the original participants chose to repeat the course a second time, and three repeated it for a third. we ran it again Sunday 2nd January - Tuesday 1st February, three repeated it again.

  • Saturday 10th February, Chinese New Year of the Wood Dragon following last night's New Moon

Year of the Wood Dragon 2024Saturday 10th February is the Chinese and Japanese Lunar New Year, following the New Moon last night.

The year just ending is the Water Rabbit. This will be the New Year of the Earth Dragon, which will last until Friday 28th January 2025, a year of positive changes and opportunities.

A dragon is a mythological creature and all Chinese legends about dragons, describe them as coming from the sky, which represents heaven, hence in China dragon is a symbol of heavenly power. Dragon is viewed as a noble and untouchable beast with occult and mystical connotations. According to Chinese energy expert, Nicholas Haines, since Dragons are mythological creatures, they bring messages to remind us what we came to earth to do. And. that is to be our authentic self, so this will be the theme of 2024. The wood energy brings in justice and the control of chaos, whereas the Dragon energy supports ambition, confidence, power and idealism. It sounds like an interesting year!

In Chinese tradition, red is an auspicious colour and can be worn to bring energy, luck & happiness. In 2024, the additional lucky colour is green, symbolising growth, harmony, and prosperity. The lucky crystal is green aventurine, which helps you to attract good luck and manifest your desires.

The Chinese calendar rotates through 60-year cycles based on 12 earthly branches, each represented by an animal year, as well as five element years which are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. 2020 was the year of the Metal Rat, 2021 was the Year of the Metal Ox. We moved into the water element in 2022 with the Water Tiger, followed by the Water Rabbit last year.

Hence the sign of the Dragon is the fifth animal of the Chinese zodiac and represents power from another dimension. 2024 is predicted to be the year to manifest your deepest dreams.

In Chinese culture, homes are thoroughly cleaned at the New Year to sweep away old ill fortune to make room for coming good luck, and fireworks are set off, and red (sometimes with gold) is worn to ward off evil monsters and bad luck. To find out more about the Year of the Earth Dragon, see Nicholas Haines' summary on You Tube.

Aligning ourselves with the lunar cycle as well as community celebrations is very therapeutic and is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

Saturday 19th August is the Egyptian Festival of Tehuti (Thoth) marking the occasion on which Tehuti (Thoth) ordered the healing of the eye of Heru (Horus).

This meditation was devised for 19th August or 19th September (both being Festivals of Tehuti) would add emphasis, but can be used anytime.

  • Saturday 30th March, UK clocks go forward tonight

Clocks go forward 1 hourSaturday 30th March, in the UK this year, is also when the clocks go forward, in fact at 01.00 on Sunday 31st March (Easter Sunday) it becomes 02.00, and that is the start of British Summer Time (BST).

Here in the UK, the clocks first went forward over 100 years ago, under the Summer Time Act 1916. Although the original campaign was proposed by builder William Willett who was a keen golfer of the time (perhaps to get an extra hour of play in the evening). Other sources say it was for the benefit of farmers, but the final decision was probably driven by potential energy savings with WWI taking place.

UK clocks go forward to operate BST (known internationally as DST = Daylight Saving Time) from the final Sunday in March until they go back one hour on the final Sunday in October. Then the UK returns to Greenwich Mean Time GMT (also now known as Universal Time). Putting the clocks back in the Winter (October - March) gives more light in the mornings when children are setting off for school.

It never ceases to amaze me that the World Time is based on the UK. I suppose that is a testament to the power of the British Empire when it was decided to formally co-ordinate time across the globe. Indeed, it was Sir George Airey, in 1851, who was responsible for the prime meridian being based at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, in London, England. Amongst the 25 nations represented at the International Meridian Conference, hosted at Washington DC, the location of ‘zero longitude’ being centred at Greenwich was decided by popular vote. However, France abstained and for several decades thereafter French maps continued to refer to the Paris meridian.

Although there is no scientific evidence to support the practice of DST, it does seem that aligning ourselves with extra sunshine helps to bring balance and wellbeing into our lives.
