  • 24th June, Midsummer's Day in British Tradition & Fors Fortuna in Roman Tradition

24th June Mid Summers DayFriday 24th June is Midsummers Day and was considered magical in Cornwall and Ireland, when there was feasting, fires, songs, and dances. Bonfires were kindled on high hills to commemorate the high point of the year.

Traditionally, the veil is thin between the dimensions housing the living and the dead at this time, hence its setting for Shakepeare's Play a Midsummer Night's Dream.

June 24th was designated as a feast celebration called St John's Day in the Christian Calendar, dedicated to the marytr St John The Baptist. The observance begins the night before as St John's Eve.  It's also commemorated in Freemasonry.

However, Midsummer's Day celebrations long predates Christianity, and has existed under different names and traditions globally.

24th June is also the Roman Festival of Fors Fortuna. Fors is an ancient Roman Goddess of prosperity, good luck, and divine blessings. Her name means "She Who Brings", from the Latin verb fero, synonymous with abundance and success.  This seems to have merged with Fortuna, probably originally a Goddess of fertility, into the Goddess called Fors Fortuna, who was acknowledged as sometimes being fickle or wanton and representing Fortune as Goddess of luck or chance.

She was especially worshipped by slaves and commoners, as the Goddess who could bring about rags-to-riches transformations; with at least two dedicated temples in Rome being founded by former slaves in gratitude for their changed luck. It also looks to have been the origin of the phrase Wheel of Fortune.

By keeping traditions, communities in Ancient Britain retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

  • Birthday of Ra & Roman Games of Apollo, 13th July 2017

Thursday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra.  Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!  Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing so perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (Equivalent) date.

Thursday 13th July in Roman Times was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.  As early as 212 BCE 13th July was the celebration of Apollo as the God of Healing (especially during wars) but this later extended into an 8 day festival ending on 13th July.  Apollo was associated with the Sun and his twin Diana (Goddess of Hunting) was associated with the moon.  Apollo became significant among the Romans when Augustus Caesar, as a young man, chose Apollo as his own god, and attributed his victory over Antony and Cleopatra to Apollo’s superiority over the Egyptian Deities!  Augustus is said to have described Apollo as: “Governor of Roman destiny; master of the sun; archer; augur; averter of pestilence; and giver of sound morals to the young.”

  • Celestial Forecast for August is ready ...

    July Celestial Forecast Image

August in Britain is school summer holidays. Time for summer camping and outdoor festivals and, our Summer Bank Holiday, this year on Monday 30th August, with typically lots of rain.  As someone with a late August birthday I can testify to rain being very common indeed.

The month of August was renamed by Augustus Caesar, after himself. Under Roman rule it was previous called Sextilllia, meaning the 6th month in Latin. When the Gregorian calendar was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, January became the opening month of the calendar year. To the Anglo-Saxons, August was called Ƿēodmōnaþ meaning ‘weed (or grass) month’.

During August, we have Khemitian (Ancient Egyptian) New Year on 1st - which is also Pagan Lunasa/Lammas, Lion’s Gate (8th) and the Perseid Meteors (9th - 17th August, peaking 11th/12th). Ths year (postponed from last year) we will have the final week of the Tokyo Olympics at the start of the month. We can also look forward to three other annual Egyptian Festivals plus a selection of Chinese, Buddhist and Hindu Festivals as well as a Roman annual commemoration. We have Surrey Forest Bathing events on the 8th, 12th, 13th & 15th.  The Full Moon takes place on Sunday 22nd, with the Sturgeon Moon peaking at 13.02 – there’s no Full Moon Meditation this month.

See my August Celestial Forecastfor full details.

July CF is hereJuly is still British summertime. Time for the orchids, delphiniums, dahlias, hydrangeas, irises and sunflowers to bloom, and the lingering perfumed scent of roses, honeysuckle, gardenias and jasmine on the night air. Traditionally, here in the UK, July would feature the Wimbledon Championship tennis finals and Henley Regatta.

The month of July was renamed to honour Julius Caesar, who was born in this month. Under Roman rule it was previous called Quintilis, meaning the 5th month in Latin. This was before January became the opening month of the calendar year, when the Gregorian calendar was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called Æftera Līþa (after midsummer).

During July, as well as the intriguing Mary Magdalene Day (abandoned in 1552), we have Canada Day (1st) plus a couple of international independence celebrations – USA (4th) and France (14th). We can look forward to a sprinkling of Zoroastrian, Buddhist and Hindu Festivals as well as a Roman annual commemoration. However, the month is inundated with Egyptian Deity commemorations, initially featuring the birthday of Ra (13th), then the month ends with the fiveEpagomenal Days - also known as the 'Days out of Time' - which celebrated the Birthdays of five major Egyptian Deities, culminating with the end of the Egyptian calendar year (1st August being their New Year). Egypt was formerly known asKhem in times of antiquity. Througout these auspicious dates in the Ancient Egyptian calendar, Katie and I will be at the Sun & Moon Festival (Merrist Wood, Guildford), where we will be offering a selection of workshops and three Forest Bathing Taster Sessions. We have Surrey Forest Bathing events on Thursday 7th July at Cannon Hill (London SW20)Sunday 10th at Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary(near Shere, Surrey) and the Kosmon Sanctuary (Tadworth, near Epsom, Surrey) on Tuesday 12th July. The Full Moon Guided Healing Meditation is taking place on Wednesday 13th, the night of the Thunder Moon (reaches its peak at 19:38).

1 July Tir JishanFriday 1st July, in Fasli tradition, is the Zoroastrian Rain Festival of Tir Jashan, dedicated to the star deities of Tir and Teshar.

Give bracelets made of the seven colours of the rainbow.  At the end of the festival go to a high place and throw them into the wind (biodegradeable I hope).

As the Festival is actually on the 13th of Tir, some Zorastrian traditions convert this to 4th July.

1st July Canada dayFriday 1st July is also Canada Day; the national day of Canada.

This is a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of Canadian confederation, which took place with the passing of the Constitution Act on 1st July 1867, where the new name Canada recognised the three separate colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick being united into a single Dominion within the British Empire.

4 July American Independence DayMonday 4th July is American Independence Day.

This marks the anniversary of unanimous adoption of the Declaration of Independence, by the Second Continental Congress in 1776

The Declaration announced that the 13 colonies claimed their separation from England, which eventually led to the formation of the United States.

24 July Guru PurnimaWednesday 13th July, being the day of the Full Moon in July, it is also Guru Purnima (the Full Moon of the Gurus) in Hindu tradition. The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima by Hindus.

On this day, devotees offer puja (worship) to their Guru.

The Sanskrit root "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes the darkness of ignorance is a Guru.

It is a day for celebration and worship, a day on which the disciples remember and express their gratitude to the lineage of Gurus. Hindus believe that a Guru is necessary to make one understand the formless Divinity.

24 July Asalkha Puja dayWednesday 13th July is Asalhka Puja Day.

This is a Buddhist commemoration of the Buddha's first public speech to five ascetics. He declared the middle way, the noble eight-fold path and the four noble truths upon which Buddhism is based.

13 July Birthday of Ra full bodyWednesday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra.

Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!

Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing so perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (equivalent) date.

13 July Games of ApolloWednesday 13th July, in Roman Times, was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.

14 July Bastille DayThursday 14th July is Bastille Daya national holiday in France.

This commemorates a mob of Frenchmen, rebelling against the rule of their king, who stormed a prison to obtain weapons and free prisoners.

It sparked the French Revolution in 1789.

22nd July Mary Magdalene DayFriday 22nd July was celebrated in the First Book of Common Prayer, 1549, as Saint Mary Magdalene’s Day in the Christian calendar.  When the Second Book of Common Prayer was published 3 years later in 1552, this feast day, amongst others was omitted.

Early celebrations of Mary Magdalene's Feast Day included marriage symbolism such as creating your own healing oil blends "for the marital bed”, probably including oils such as rose, sandalwood, and ylang ylang.

Apparently the original feast day venerated her as a representative of the perfect wife (church liturgy recommended readings such as Proverbs 31:10-31), so it is a day to celebrate the Sacred Feminine, maybe plant something, sew something, cook something and, of course, love something.

Sun Moon Festival promoTuesday 26th July to 2nd August is the Sun & Moon Festival at Merrist Wood, Guildford. It's not organised by us, but Katie and Joanna will be there for the entire week.

Katie is offering three taster Forest Bathing events over the duration of the festival. Times/dates to be organised by the festival co-ordinators.

Joanna is running three workshops on:

3/. Harness the Power of the Moon for Health, Wealth & Wellbeing.

26 July eve of Epagomenal DaysTuesday 26th July (or 13th July) is the Egyptian eve of the Epagomenal Days of celebration for the birthdays of their ancient major Deities.

The exact correlation of the Egyptian New year to the modern calendar is disputed, but I favour the linking with the heliacal rising of Sirius (dawn visibility of Sirius) as this star, known to the Egyptians as Sopdet (pronounced Soppday) was closely associated with Aset.

The celebrations began on the Eve of the Epagomenal Days - viewed as 26th July, although some sources equate it to 13th July). The following days marked the birthdays of the five children of the Egyptian Deity Nut.

27 July birthday of AusarBeing dates of powerful Egyptian Energies these may prove ideal days for an Egyptian Energy Reyad Sekh Em 1-2-1 healing session.

28 July birthday of HeruAccording to myth, Tehuti (Thoth) enabled Nut to give birth to her five children [Aset (Isis), Ausar (Osirus), Set, Heru (Horus the elder) and Nebt-het (Nephthys)] by using his cunning to win a game of draughts with the moon.

By winning a seventy second part of the moon's light, he managed to create five extra days (the Epagomenal Days, also known as the Days out of Time), which allowed Nut to give birth to her five children without breaking Ra's decree that her children could not be born on any existing calendar day.

This myth more than any other is responsible for Tehuti (Thoth)'s role as a lunar deity.

29 July birthday of SetWednesday 27th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Ausar (Osirus).

He is also known as Wzr, Wesir, Asar, Ausir, Usir, Usire,Osirus,Osirus. The latter two versions being used later after the Greek occupation, but the variation is mainly due to the lack of vowels in heiroglyphic language meaning that there are many phonetic representations. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

    30 July birthday of Aset

Thursday 28th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Heru (Horus).

This is Heru-ur [also known as Horus the Elder (Gr)], sibling of Ausar and Aset, not their son. Not all sources list him as a sibling, Egyptian mythology widely varies depending on the era and geographical location of the source within Egypt. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

10 July New MoonThursday 28th July@ 18:55 is Lunasa New Moon.

The New Moon Abundance Ritual should be carried out within 24 hours after the New Moon. It needs to be after the New Moon because the moon should be waxing (getting bigger again) to carry the manifestation energy. There are video instructions on my Facebook Page or You Tube Page.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board for the rest of 2022.

Friday 29th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Set (Seth). Set is also known as Seth (Gr), Setesh, Sutekh, Setekh or Suty which probably ultimately led to the term SatanSee the entry under 26th July for the full story.

31 July birthday of Nebt hetSaturday 30th July, in the Egyptian Calendar, is the Birthday of Aset [Aset, Iset, Isis (Gr)]

Auset is responsible for resurrecting her murdered husband and, being mad with grief, uses her magical powers to temporarily restore breath and life into Ausar in order to concieve their son Heru.See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

Sunday 31st July is the Egyptian Birthday of Nebt-het  [Nebet-Het, Nebthet, Nepthys (Gr)].

Nebh-het is the sister-wife of Set and is typically paired with her sister Auset when undertaking funerary rites because of their protective priestess roles with mummified bodies. See the entry under 26th July for the full story.

June is British summertime. The roses bloom, imprinting their perfumed scent into the extended evenings leading to the Solstice on the 21st. Garden flowers and hedgerows are splendidly colourful and summer berries are abundant.  Seasons are topsy turvey with the elderflower, usually a May blossom, in full bloom as June begins. After two crazy years, we will relish the picnic season with strawberries & ice-cream plus elderflower cordial; despite optimism versus realism whilst planning for both rain and/or sunburn risk.

The month could be named after Juno, the Roman Goddess linked with marriage. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called sera monath (dry month), which is not necessarily our modern-day experience.

Excitingly, this year, we have three lots of 666 numerology on the 6th, 15th & 24th June, see below for details. Also during June, as well as the Summer Solstice (21st) and our own traditional British Festivals including Midsummer's Eve (24th), we have a couple of international events – World Environment Day (3rd), World Ocean Day (8th) and Asteroid Day (30th). We can look forward to a sprinkling of Chinese (3rd), Egyptian (16th and 20th) and Roman (24th) celebrations plus the Bootid Meteor Shower (peaking 27th). We have Surrey Forest Bathing events on 25th with Full Moon on the 14th, there's no live Full Moon Meditation this month but a recorded one will be available to purchase.

Bank Holiday nature TrailThursday 2nd/Friday 3rd June is the delayed Whitsun Bank Holiday to mark the Queen's Jubilee weekend early June.

Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee (70 years of service). In 2022, most workers in the United kingdom will have two days off work (and it's school half term) and the banks will be closed.

Normally the Whitsun break is known as the Late May bank holiday and falls on the last Monday of May but it used to be on the Monday after Pentecost.

14th June Chinese Dragon Boat FestivalFriday 3rd June is scheduled as the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival in Mandarin and Tuen Ng Festival in Cantonese. The Festival is to commemorate the Chinese patriot, Qu Yuan, who killed himself by jumping into the river Li in despair. He was desperate because his master refused to take his advice and he feared his country falling into the enemy's hands  It is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, which falls this year on Friday 3rd June.  However, celebrations often take place on convenient weekends in the Western calendar - such as the Ilford Dragon Boat Festivalwhich is scheduled to take place this year 18th June.

5th June alternative World Environment DaySunday 5th June is World Environment Day, which has been celebrated annually since 1974. Over the years, the day has focused on such issues as acid rain, oceans, water, and green cities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
World Environment Day is also encouraging individuals into doing something personally to take care of the Earth. It doesn’t matter whether the effort is on a local level or whether it is a group effort nationally or even globally; everyone is free to choose.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
World Environment Day has a new theme annually which focuses attention on a pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2022 is #onlyoneearth 🌍⠀

TogetherCoalition ThankYouDay 1x1Sunday 5th June, in 2022, is alsoThank You Day in the UK. The past couple of years have been testing for all of us. But with The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer there’s never been a better excuse for great big party, to say thank you to everyone who has helped us through.

That’s why Sunday 5th June is this year’s Thank You Day.We’re getting together as friends, families, neighbours and communities, to raise a glass to The Queen for 70 years outstanding service, and say a great big thank you to each other as well.

Let’s do it in style. Make sure everyone is included, get the school band to play, invite the next street over. Let’s make this the biggest thank you party ever!⠀⠀

666 numerologyMonday 6th June is a primary 666 in numerology. 2022 is a '6' year in numerology (2+0+2+2 = 6), June is the 6th month and today is the 6th day of the month, so this is a primary 666 as each component of the month adds up to 6. Wednesday 15th and Friday 24th June (the latter aso being Midsummers Day) will carry secondary 666 energy as the components of these dates also add up to 6.

Numerology is the study of the symbolism of numbers and the science attributing significance and meaning to seemingly random numbers happening globally or noticed in our environment. Double or triple digit numbers are added together and reduced into a single digit (as above with the digits of the year).

In numerology, the number 6 can be said to represent the sacred vibration of light focusing on love, marriage, home, family, nurturing, compassion, healing, service and success. But by far the most vital representation of the number 6 is healing and integration, particularly regarding personal cellular vibration. The 6-pointed star represents the Macrocosm - Divinity within all. Quite the opposite of the association many people have of 666 with the devil and negativity.

Double numbers (i.e. 11, 22, 33 etc.) and triple numbers (111, 222, 333 etc.) are known as repdigits and intensifies the meaning. With 6 being said to represent the Macrocosm (the collective) as well as being the number of creativity, of family, relationships and success. The figure 666 offers triple the opportunity of eliminating our fears and creating successful relationships.

There will be a full Harmony Healing Blog entry posted on 6th June featuring finer details on the meaning of numerological triple numbers and more on the interpretation of 666 specifically.

14th June Solstice Strawberry MoonTuesday 14th June is Full Moon @ 12:52 UK time. It's the Summer Solstice Strawberry Moon.

It's also known as the Lotus Moon, Oak Moon, Cold Moon or Long Night’s Moon.

Between Full Moon and the next New Moon is considered as a good time energetically for detoxing the body. For instructions on how to conduct an Angela McGerr's Full Moon Meditation with Gabriel (from Angela McGerr's book A Harmony of Angel, we have a few unused signed editions available from the Harmony Shop),see the Harmony Healing Full Moon listing.

    15th June 666 numerologyWednesday 15th June is a secondary 666 in numerology.

2022 is a '6' year in numerology (2+0+2+2 = 6), June is the 6th month and today is the 15th day of the month (1+5=6), so this is a secondary 666 as each component of the month adds up to 6. See entry under 6th June for more information.

16th June Leyleten NuktahThursday 16th June is the Egyptian night, known as Leyleten-Nuktah, the Night of the Tear Drop.

A miraculous tear-drop as Aset (Isis) began the mourning of her brother/husband Asar (Osirus), was believed to fall into the Nile causing it to rise and bring new life to the land.

Sources vary as to whether this is 14th/16th/17th or 18th June; the date is actually the 11th day of the Ancient Egyptian month of Ba-oo-neh, so the confusion arises when trying to covert this to our Gregorian calendar.

To purchase instructions for a sacred bath ritual for finding inner strength; removing the etheric mask to see the ‘truth’ beneath(£9.99 or £4.44 to email subscribers) see Harmony Shop or email .Subscriber discount code is HHSUB, also shown on the booking page.

20th June Egyptian Festival of the Burning of the LampsMonday 20th June is the Egyptian Festival of the Burning of the Lamps which was held at Sais (source Bibliotheca Alexandrina, p31, also available via Academia.edu,date from Moonwise Calendar). This is the third great festival in Sais to Aset (Isis).

In an under-chapel beneath the temple, lamps were carried in procession around the coffin of Asar (Osiris). It was by the power of light, symbolising the life-giving power of the Moon, that Aset rekindled life in her dead husband.

The exact date is actually the 13th day of the Ancient Egyptian month of Epeiph, so confusion arises when trying to covert this to our Gregorian calendar and some sources give variations especially 21st June.

21st June Summer SolsticeTuesday 21st June at 10:13 is the Pagan Celebration of the Solstice, the moment when the sun enters Cancer. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is viewed as the triumph of light, the ecstatic culmination of the sun, yet the start of growing darkness.

Old traditions included: Making a bonfire on a hilltop, sing, drink, laugh and time of merry-making.

Processions with torches and lanterns, rolling wheel down hill to mark the start of the sun’s descent, blessing cakes and wine, waiting for the dawn and greeting the sun when it rises, sleeping by a spring, rolling naked in the dew of the summer sunrise! More at timeanddate.com

    24th June 666 numerologyFriday 24th June is a secondary 666 in numerology.

2022 is a '6' year in numerology (2+0+2+2 = 6), June is the 6th month and today is the 15th day of the month (2+4=6), so this is a secondary 666 as each component of the month adds up to 6.

See entry under 6th June for more information and see below for mor about this date also being Midsummers Day.

24th June Mid Summers DayFriday 24th June is also Midsummers Eve and was considered magical in Cornwall and Ireland, when there was feasting, fires, songs, and dances. Bonfires were kindled on high hills to commemorate the high point of the year. Traditionally, the veil is thin between the dimensions housing the living and the dead at this time.

This is also the Roman Festival of Fors Fortuna. Forsis(note the name is very similar to Isis) an ancient Roman Goddess of prosperity, good luck, and divine blessings.

New Moon is a good time to work on your Vision Board for the rest of 2022.

30th June Asteroid DayThursday 30th June is Asteroid Day. Asteroid Day was co-founded in 2014, by Dr. Brian May, astrophysicist and lead guitarist of QUEEN, together with Rusty Schweickart, Apollo 9 Astronaut, Danica Remy, President of B612 Foundation and filmmaker Grig Richters.

May CF is readyMay is a month when our Pagan heritage breaks through into parochial folklore. May Day, also known as Beltane, is a Pagan Festival still celebrated in parishes across the country featuring elaborate traditions involving May Poles, floral-dressed girls bedecked with flower garlands, Morris Dancers, Green Man imagery, hobby horses etc. We usher in the promise of sunshine and summer as we welcome green shoots and abundant blossom everywhere, not least the Mayflower (Hawthorn) associated with the old adage, ne'er cast a clout till May be out (which I always assumed meant the month itself)...

The month could be named after Maia, a Greek Goddess linked with the land, fertility and growth. To the Anglo-Saxons, it was called Thrimilci, the month when cows could be milked three times a day due to constant grazing on abundant new grass.

During May, as well as our own traditional British Festivals plus Mental Health Awareness Week (9th-16th) and we can look forward to Roman and Egyptian celebrations as well as a lunar eclipse. On the 16th we have a Flower Blood Full Moon with total lunar eclipse which is not visible in the UK or most of Europe - but we will still be affected energetically. Eclipses always bring the unseen into focus. Our Full Moon Online Guided Meditation is 7.30-9.30pm UK time on Monday 16th May.

We have Surrey Forest Bathing events with Bluebells at Harry Edwards on Sunday 15th (full day event themed on Nature Angels) & Sunday 22nd, as well as London Forest Bathing in SW20 on Monday 9th (during Mental Health Awareness week). Our inaugural 6-week Forest Bathing Series for the local branch of the mental health charity Mind starts 11th May. And my Violet Flame of Amenti virtual study course is starting again on the 12th May.

May Day BeltaneSunday 1st Mayis May Day and Beltane - a Celtic word meaning 'fires of Bel' (Bel was a Celtic deity). It is a fire festival that celebrates the coming of summer and the fertility of the coming year. Celtic festivals often tied in with the needs of the community. In springtime, at the beginning of the farming calendar, everybody would be hoping for a fruitful year for their fields and hence also their families. Beltane rituals would often include courting: for example, young men and women collecting blossoms in the woods and lighting fires in the evening. These rituals would often lead to matches and marriages, either immediately or in the coming summer or autumn.

Bona Dea 1st MaySunday 1st Maywas also the annual Roman Festival of Bona Dea. In Roman mythology, Bona Dea (literally "the good goddess") was the goddess of fertility, healing, virginity, and women. She was the daughter of the god Faunus and was associated with supplying medicinal healing herbs in her temple garden. Bona Dea was traditionally invoked for freedom from slavery; many of her worshippers were freed slaves and plebeians, and several were women seeking aid in sickness or for fertility. This Festival was celebrated by women only!

Image by Marti Dean who also designed Jack's face for the 2022 Hastings FestivalMonday 2nd May, is early May Bank Holiday in the UK (the first Monday after 1st May), with many towns and villages offering May Day celebrations.

Jack in the Green Festival is held in Hastings, with four days of festivities around the May Day weekend. Since its revival in the 1980s the festival has become synonymous with the town of Hastings and is now one of its largest events.

Over the long weekend there is morris dancing around the town, a traditional ceilidh and a sunrise ceremony to welcome in the dawn of summer on Sunday 1 May. Bank holiday Monday is the highlight as the town turns green. A grand procession leads the giant foliage-covered Jack through the Old Town and up to the West Hill, where he is eventually 'slain' and the spirit of summer is released! Image by Marti Dean, who also designed Jack's face for this 2022 festival programmes.

Hastings Jack in the Green is a hugely popular event so local roads and the A21 can get congested and car parking around the town is limited.

Veneration of the ThornWednesday 4th May, is the festival of the Veneration of the Thorn at which the Hawthorn is honoured.

This is a festival of modern origin that may have been adapted from the night of Lunantisidhe on 16th May, honouring the fairy spirits of Hawthorns.

Holy bushes and trees marking sacred places and wells are acknowledged and new scraps of cloth are tied to their branches.

Alec Bristow the Great EscapeWednesday 4th May, 3-4.15pm, Joanna's talk entitled 'The Great Escape; the Real Story' at the Guildford Institute, Ward Street, Guildford, Surrey GU1 4LH. Cost £5. Most places are reserved for members.

Joanna will tell the personal story of her father who grew up in Guildford before becoming a WWII Mosquito pilot and a prisoner-of-war in Stalag Luft III where the famous ‘Great Escape’ took place in March 1944.

Joanna first saw The Great Escape film as a young child and has assembled extensive research, her father’s anecdotes and his wartime diary to give a fascinating insight into what it was really like for an RAF officer in the camp. Including: How ambitious were the preparations and plans? What actually took place on 24 March 1944 and what were the after-effects of this bold affront to the Nazi regime?

The one hour talk will cover: details of what actually happened on the night of the Great Escape (made famous by the 1963 Hollywood Blockbuster), as well as how he survived the war, his lucky escape, and how he came to run five travel agencies in North West Surrey.

You can book online viaGuildford Institute (event ref T278) or by phone on 01483 562142.

9th May LemuriaMonday 9th Mayis the Roman Festival of Lemuria.

This involved a ritual by the Master (or Mistress) of the House with nine black beans(!) to honour the Lemures – spirits of those who died unnatural or violent deaths.

I wondered if it was connected to the ancient land of Lemuria, believed to have been situated in the Pacific area near Hawaii, and a possible belief by the Romans that the land may have been destroyed violently (legend says that, like Atlantis, a disaster such as volcanic eruption or flood caused its destruction).

Mental health awareness week 2022Monday 9th - Sunday 15th May is Mental Health Awareness Week here in the UK, and the theme this year is loneliness which affects millions of people across the UK.

Sadly, the series of lockdowns since 2020, won't have helped mental health at all, with loneliness and isolation a known cause of depression already.

On the plus side, this last two years have put health and wellbeing in the public eye more than ever.

Jo at CHCMonday 9th May, 11am -1.30pm, we kick off Mental Health Awareness Week with Forest Bathing+at our London location in Cannon Hill Park, SW20, £35 (+ Paypal fee = £36.75).

The colour violet has an established association with spirituality. Having the highest frequency in the visible spectrum, violet is at the point of transition to the next octave of light. Both in Atlantis, and subsequently during the Essene era (which spanned the lifetimes of Mother Mary, Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene), this powerful tool was retained under the Guardianship of Angels Melchisadec and Ariel.

This course features instructions on the ancient alchemical properties of the Violet Flame and how to use it in your daily life. See Violet Flame of Amenti page for further details and to book.

  • Egyptian Day of the Light of Aset (Isis) & Festival of Diana, 12th/13th August 2018

isis with sampleSunday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

Image (left) by Jacqui Taliesin El Masra (Alkhemi.co.uk) also available as a laminated poster from this site - see Harmony Shop.

Monday 13th August, in Roman tradition, was the Festival of Diana, being the date upon which King Servius Tullius dedicated her shrine on the Aventine Hill in Rome in the mid-sixth century BCE.  Diana was the hunting goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna; and the moon was an emblem of chastity. Oak groves were especially sacred to her. She was praised in poetry for her strength, athletic grace, purity, distinct beauty, and hunting skill.  Despite her virginal status, Diana was also a Goddess of Fertility.

  • Egyptian Festival of Pelusia, Tuesday 20th March 2018

Tuesday 20th March is the Egyptian Festival of Pelusia, with the Egyptian Goddess Isis (Aset) working her spring magic to ensure the flooding of the Nile later in the year, thereby guaranteeing a fruitful harvest. See Joanna's live Facebook Pelusia/Facebook video.

Image of Isis (left), also known as Aset, is by Jacqui Taliesin El Masri of Alkhemi.com

We do have Egyptian Deity Posters available for sale from the Harmony Shop.

Accordng to findwords.info, in the Roman Empire, the Pelusia was a religious festival held on the 20th March to honour Isis (known as Aset to the indigenous Egyptians) and her child Harpocrates (known to the Egyptians as Heru and later called Horus by the Greeks). It would have coincided with the second day of the Quinquatria, the five-day festival dedicated to Minerva(see Blog entry for 19th March). It's not known when the tradition started because the holiday was not featured in the Roman calendar by 100 AD, but had been added by the reign of Marcus Aurelius (161–180 AD).

In the 6th Century AD, John Lydus, the Byzantine scholar, describes the festival as commemorating the mud (we would now know as the alluvial plain) caused from the flooding of the Nile. This ends hunger and drought and generates fertility.  It was thought to be represented by the birth of Harpocrates, who in Roman art is depicted emerging from mud bearing a Cornucopia (rather like the image of Lar featured on the 22nd February Blog entry).

During the Pelusia, participants were sprinkled with water to obtain immunity from offenses to the gods (impunitas periurorum) and rebirth (regeneratio). The sprinkling is thought to recreate the symbolic effect of the flooding, indicating that  water from the Nile itself may have been used as a form of holy water as it was in other Isis ceremonies brought to Rome. Regeneratio was also used in connection with Baptism in Christian discourse of the time.

In Egypt, the Pelusia on 20th March, marked the beginning of the sailing season. The day was under the protection of Isis and Serapis (the Graeco-Egyptian version of Osirus combined with Apis, introduced by the Ptolemies in the 1st Century BC).

  • Friday 15th October, Roman Festival of October Horse

1024px Tombstone depicting 2-horse chariot by Johann Jaritz / CC BY-SA 3.0 AT (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/at/deed.en)Friday 15th October is the Roman celebration of October Horse being the Ides of October.

In ancient Rome, the October Horse (Equus October in latin) was an animal sacrifice to Mars carried out on 15th October, coinciding with the end of the military and agricultural campaigning season.

Chariot races (bigae) were held in the  Campus Martius, the area of Rome dedicated to Mars.  At he end, the right-hand horse of the winning team was transfixed by a spear, then sacrificed. Thank goodness it no longer takes place.

The October Horse is the only example of horse sacrifice in Roman tradition. However, horse sacrifice took place elsewhere in the ancient world, such as the Vedic ashvamedha and an Irish ritual described by Giraldus Cambrensis, both are connected to kingship.

Although the ritual battle for possession of the head probably dates from the early period when Rome was a kingdom, October Horse's association with war and agriculture is characteristic of the Republic. The involvement of Mars in various equestrian festivals also reflects initiation and rebirth ritual.

Traditional and religious festivals like this helped Roman communities to feel connected, bringing balance and harmony into people's lives.

  • Friday 17th December, Roman Festival of Saturnalia

17 Dec SaturnaliaFriday 17th December is the Roman Festival of Saturnalia. This was the popular banquet commemorating the dedication of the temple of the god Saturn. It was marked by tomfoolery and reversal of social roles, in which slaves and masters ostensibly switched places.

The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public feast, continual partying with private gift-giving, gambling and a celebratory atmosphere that reversed the usual Roman social norms with masters provided table service for their slaves. The poet Catullus referred to it as "the best of days."

Saturn was an agricultural deity who, in Roman Mythology, was associated with the Golden Age, when humans enjoyed the spontaneous bounty of the earth without labour in a state of innocence.

Celebrating traditional festivals like Saturnalia, helped Roman communities come together and bring balance and harmony into people's lives.

  • Friday 19th March, Roman Festival of Quinquatrus & Women's Moon Lodge

Quinquatrus 19th MarchFriday 19th March is the Roman Festival of Quinquatrus (also known as Quinquatria), the name being derived from it happening the 5th day after the Ides of March.

This was a Festival dedicated to Minerva when women were accustomed to consult fortune-tellers and diviners.

Both Festus and Varro indicate that the Quinquatrus was only celebrated for one day and hence ancient Roman religious calendars assign only one day to the festival.

Ovid, however, states that it was a five day celebration, hence the name. Apparently, on the first day no blood was shed, but on the last four there were gladiator contests.

At one time, celebrations took place 19th - 23rd of March, orginally an Etruscan festival to celebrate spring, rites of women, rebirthing and the Spring Equinox.

I can't help wondering if it was a development from the Egyptian Pelusia Festival, see 20th March entry.

By keeping traditions, communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives. Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life.

Moon Lodge eventFriday 19th March,as well as being Quinquatrus, is also is the Moon Lodge Healing Women's Circle, 7-8.30pm GMT, £11 + Eventbrite fee = £11.27. This is a virtual event on Zoom.

Run by Harmony Healing collaborator Sarah Jane Dennis, this is a sacred circle for women in the community to come together as we once did, to connect in a safe and loving space to the energies of the moon and our own cycles.

Talk, support, heal, celebrate, and hold each other. Book at Eventbrite. Contact Sarah-Jane via her website at crystalhealingbysarahjane.co.uk or email .

Aligning ourselves with other members of the community through mutual celebration and support is very therapeutic and is excellent for bringing harmony and wellbeing into our lives.

These modules are £66 each.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the nextvirtual healing circle later this month  on  Sunday 28th March, at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £20 (+ £2 Paypal fee). • Friday 24th June, 666 numerology, Midsummer's Day in British Tradition & Fors Fortuna in Roman Tradition

666 numerology 26th JuneFriday 24th June is secondary 666 in numerology.  2022 is a '6' year in numerology (2+0+2+2 = 6), June is the 6th month and with the 6th June being the 6th day of the month, it was a primary 666 as digits for all aspects of the month each add up to 6.

Wednesday 15th and Friday 24th June (today) carry secondary 666 energy as the digits of those dates also add up to 6. Subscribers to the Harmony Healing e-Newsletters will receive reminders on the day.

See earlier Blog entry for 6th June for more on the numerology of 6 and the full Harmony Healing Blog entry for 6th June for further details on the meaning of triple numbers in numerology and the interpretation of 666 specifically.

Numerology is seen by some as a way of bringing balance, harmony and meaning into your life. Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing.

Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing. If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we hold monthly Full Moon Guided Healing Meditations.During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. • Friday 3rd December, Roman Festival of Bona Dea

Roman Goddess CeresFriday 3rd December is the Roman Festival of Bona Dea, this being a smaller festival that the one celebrated on 1st May but similarly for women only. In Roman mythology, Bona Dea (literally "the good goddess") was the goddess of fertility, healing, virginity, and women. Some sources say it's the 4th December.

She was the daughter of the god Faunus and was associated with supplying medicinal healing herbs in her temple garden. Bona Dea was also invoked for freedom from slavery; many of her worshippers were freed slaves and plebeians, and many were women seeking aid in sickness or for fertility.  Her oracles were revealed only to females.

Men were not just prohibited from Her secret festival, they not even allowed to know Her name, let alone utter it. There were other restrictions during the worship of Bona Dea: drinking either wine or myrtle was taboo and could not be mentioned by name throughout Her secret festival, probably because they were both considered very powerful due to their sacred association with Her. Bona Dea may have been aspect of Ceres, another Roman Goddess illustrated here.

Celebrating traditional festivals like Bona Dea, helped Roman communities come together and bring balance and harmony into people's lives.

  • Liberalia and St Patrick's Day 2018

st patricks Day by Diane PaganSaturday 17th March is St Patrick’s Day in Eire (Ireland).

St Patrick is credited with converting the Irish back to Christianity which had been abandoned under Roman rule.

Saint Patrick is said to have used the Shamrock (three leaved clover) as a metaphor for the Christian Trinity. According to Wikipedia, the name shamrock comes from the Irish word seamróg, which is derived from the Irish word for clover (seamair) and means simply "little clover" or "young clover".

The Irish Shamrock downloadable image (see left) by Diane Pagan is from her  theimaginationbox.com website, where you will find many other creative projects to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

Saturday 17th March was also Liberalia, this was the Ancient Roman Festival to celebrate the male coming of age!  In view of the statement above that Christianity which had been abandoned under Roman rule, I wonder if there is a connection that when Eire re-converted to Christianity they chose the day of the male coming of age as their date of celebration...

Liberalia was the Roman Feast of Liber Pater (God of wine and fertility, especially seeds) and his consort Libera, and was held three days after the Ides of March (15th). The day was celebrated with ribald songs, processions of priests and elder priestesses - adorned with Ivy - and sacrifices, with masks being hung on trees.

381px Lar romano de bronce M.A.N. Inv.2943 01 Lara God worshipped for CaristiaYoung Roman boys were given a lucky charm by their parents called a bulla praetexta, generally made of gold or leather, which was hung around their necks to ward off evil spirits.

When boys reached puberty (usually aged 14-16) this amulet would be removed and often placed on an altar dedicated to the Lares (Deities protecting the household and family, image right shows a statue of one of the Lares holdng a cornucopia), together with either a lock of the boy's hair or stubble from his first shave. Subsequently mothers' would retrieve them and keep them safe out of superstition, and they would be used for protection if the son was ever in public office or in a role involving any danger.

Later in the ceremony the rites of passsage would continue with the fathers' taking their sons to the Forum to be presented as adult citizens, now with full adult rites including eligibilty to vote (if he met the statutory requirements of the time) and the authority to wear the pure white adult toga, as well as to marry.  See Romeacrosseurope.com for more information.

  • Monday 12th/Tuesday 13th August Egyptian, Day of the Light of Aset (Isis) & Festival of Diana

128px IsisWednesday 12th August is the Day of the Light of Aset (Isis).

On this day Aset (Isis) is celebrated with all forms of light including sun worship, during the day and candles at night.

Interesting that it is very close to the date for the Roman Festival of Diana, which no doubt was a development from the Egyptian Festival.

256px Diane de Versailles Leochares 2 1 wikipediaThursday 13th August, in Roman tradition, was the Festival of Diana, being the date upon which King Servius Tullius dedicated her shrine on the Aventine Hill in Rome in the mid-sixth century BCE.

Thursday 13th - Saturday 15th August is Obon (also known as Bon); a Buddhist festival to honour dead loved ones. Celebrated through the lighting of bonfires, sacred meals, paper lanterns and dancing. See more at japan-guide.com

  • Monday 13th July, Birthday of Ra & Roman Games of Apollo

Eye of Ra by Peter LomasMonday 13th July, according to some sources, was the Ancient Egyptian Festival to celebrate the Birthday of Ra.  Since Ra was the God of creation this could be interpreted as the day man was created!  Ra was also associated with the Sun and healing so perhaps it is no coincidence that the Roman’s celebrated Apollo on the same (Equivalent) date. Image by Peter Lomas from Pixabay.

Monday 13th July in Roman Times was the culmination of the Games of Apollo.
