  • Wednesday 25th January, Burns Night in Scotland

Burns Night 25 JanuaryWednesday 25th January is Burns Night in Scotland.

Burns Night is a revered date in the Scottish calendar and celebrates, on the anniversary of his birthday, the life and works of their national Bard, Robert Burns.

Born a little over 250 years ago; some consider his best known poem as ‘Auld Lang Syne’, though others believe he did not write it himself, but was the first person credited with writing it down for posterity as part of his attempt to preserve Scottish traditional songs.

The evening centres on the entrance of the haggis (a type of sausage made from a sheep's stomach) on a large platter to the sound of ceremonial bagpipes.

When the haggis is on the table, the host reads the "Address to a Haggis". This is an ode that Robert Burns wrote to the Scottish delicacy!

At the end of the reading, the haggis is ceremonially sliced into two pieces and the meal begins.

Amongst other works, Burns also write the famous 'Ode to a Louse':

O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us

To see oursels as ithers see us!

It wad frae mony a blunder free us,

    An' foolish notion:

What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us,

    An' ev'n devotion!

This is generally translated into modern language as:

And would some Power give us the gift

To see ourselves as others see us!

It would from many a blunder free us,

    And foolish notion:

What airs in dress and gait would leave us,

    And even devotion!

  • Wednesday 30th November, St Andrews Day in Scotland

30 Nov St Andrews dayThursday 30th November is St Andrew’s Day in Scotland.

Saint Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, and St. Andrew's Day is celebrated by Scots around the world on the 30th November. According to a 2015 article in the Independent, Saint Andrew is also the patron saint of fishmongers, fishermen, singers, spinsters, maidens, women wanting to be mothers, as well as the Order of the Thistle, one of the highest ranks of chivalry in the world, second only to the Order of the Garter. Apparently he's also the 'Go-to' Saint for anyone with gout or a sore throat.

St Andrew never visited Scotland, but has been revered there since about 1000 AD. It was the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320 which identified him as their patron saint. St Andrew was crucified in Greece in 60 AD, by order of Roman Governor Aegeas, on an X-shaped cross, hence the flag of Scotland depicts the blue (saltire) Cross, and this is widely displayed as a symbol of national identity.

Celebrating traditional fesivals like St Andrew's Day, help to unite communities together and bring balance and harmony into people's lives.

Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians, in the form of Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing, to bring balance and harmony. Reyad Sekh Em® is an ultra high vibration healing system combining ancient Egyptian philosophies, alchemy, angelic elemental healing rays, sound vibration, sacred breathing and etheric crystalline energies.

Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) has been modularised so that Level One (introduction) is now available to complete online as 3 units. All the units can be taken alone but together make up the RSE 1 syllabus. Violet Flame of Amenti starts tonight, Thursday 30th November.

During these monthly sessions, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme. And, most importantly, it's a step towards making a difference to the global predicament.
