  • Ancient Egyptian Ritual of the Neteru of the Two Lands, 22nd September 2018

Map of Lower Egypt from WikipediaSaturday 22nd September is the Ancient Egyptian Ritual of the Neteru of the Two Lands

The Two Lands, comprising of Upper & Lower Egypt, were presided over by the more successful Pharoahs. To the north was Lower Egypt (see map from Wikipedia) where the Nile fans into the Nile Delta.

To the south was Upper Egypt, stretching to Aswan. The terms Upper and Lower Egypt are derived from the unusual geography of the Nile, which unlike most rivers, flows from south to north. Its origins are in the highlands of East Africa and it ends with the Nile Delta which drains into the Mediterannean Sea.

Double Crown of Egypt image from WikipediaIn Spiritual lore, Upper and Lower Egypt could be said to represent the higher and lower self of the human body, and as such would need to be integrated on an annual basis with the help of the Neteru (Deities or Angelic Beings).

The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt occurred in about 3000 BC, but the pschent - or double crown, see  Wikipedia image on the right - worn by the Pharoahs represented the combined regalia of both areas; the hedjet or White Crown for Upper Egypt and the deshret or Red Crown for Lower Egypt, each half representing sovereignty of one of the kingdoms.

Established Ancient Egyptian tradition generally credits Menes (also known as Narmer), as the king who united Upper and Lower Egypt.

On the Narmer Palette the king is depicted wearing the Red Crown in one scene and the White crown in another, and thereby showing his rule over both Lands.

22nd September is also an alternative date for the Ancient Egyptian Ceremony of Transformation through Anpu (Anubis), though most sources list it as 4th September.  Joanna was interviewed by Linda Lang from ThoughtChange for their Mystical Side of Life Podcast series - see it on YouTube or for audio go to Anchor.

anubis with sampleAn MP3 Meditation to overcome negative behaviour patterns is available from the Harmony Shop. The Egyptians believed that when a deceased soul entered the Halls of Amenti they would undergo a ceremony involving the metaphorical weighing of the heart (of the deceased) against Maat's feather, whereby the weight of the heart represents the degree to which the deceased lived in truth (that is how much he/she has sinned, the more he/she had sinned the heavier the heart). The meditation guides you through a journey with Anpu to see how you would fare if your heart was weighed against Maat's feather at this point in your life. This meditation was devised for 4th September, which being a Festival of Anpu would add emphasis, but can be used anytime.

Anpu is the illegitimate child of Nebt-Het (Nephthys), born of her clandestine union with Asar (Osiris) but raised as the son of Set. Cast out when his true lineage was discovered, he became associated with dark and lonely places, a wanderer through the shadow-realm between life and death, Anpu therefore bearing witness to the darker side of mortality. He seeks out those lost souls who find themselves without guidance after their demise. He guards the Entrance to the Underworld, presided over by his true father Asar.  Hence, all who die will find themselves in the presence of this mysterious Jackel-headed God, who escorts them away from this world and to the gates of the next.

  • Equinox, 20th March 2018

    earth lighting equinox en

Tuesday 20th March is the Pagan Vernal Equinox at 16.15.

The Equinox is a time when light and dark are equal over the whole world. It's good to mark the moment with silence and stillness. See my live Facebook Pelusia/Facebook video.

Representing balance of opposites, symbolically it's a great time to bring harmony and balance into your life.

In the UK and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, this is the Spring Equinox, in the Southern Hemisphere it's the Autumn Equinox. Image left by Przemyslaw "Blueshade" Idzkiewicz shows the illumination of Earth by Sun on the day of equinox  (vernal and autumnal) and is from Wikimedia Commons.

On this day the sun rises exactly at due East and sets at due west. This fact makes it a good day for finding due east and due west from your favourite site for watching the night sky. Simply go outside around sunset or sunrise and notice the exact location of the sun on the horizon with respect to familiar landmarks. See Earthsky Websitefor more.

PhuelHere is an Angela McGerr Angelic Meditation with Barakiel (the ruler of Pisces) and Phuel (guardian angel of water) which could be conducted for the Equinox

The Zodiac Sign of Pisces is ruled by Neptune and is of course a Water Sign.

This Equinox day (final day of the Sign) gives you an opportunity to use the healing powers of Barakiel, Ruler of Pisces, and Phuel, Angel Ruler of Neptune, who is also Lord of Waters and Powers of the Moon.

See image of Phuel (right) by Richard Rockwood, taken from Angela's Harmony Angel Cards, last few copies available from our Harmony Shop as it's now out of print).

Try this exercise with these two mighty Angels. Use it to heal, wash away emotional turbulence and hurt, for heart and thymus to re-expand.

    • You could do this exercise while in the bath, or just swimming, or if this is impossible just use your imagination.
    • Sit quietly and focus your attention within, thinking about your desire to calm your emotions.  Say Barakiel’s and Phuel's names three times to invite them in.
    • If you have an aquamarine (one of Phuel's crystals), hold this in your left hand and it will be programmed with healing during this exercise.
    • Start taking deep breaths of blue green energy, breathing them right down through your body.
    • Imagine you are walking in a beautiful place of nature.
    • Presently you come to a pool of crystal clear water, reflecting a blue sky.
    • Know that with the power of water energy your spirit can go down into this water to be healed and washed clean of emotional turbulence.
    • Imagine that you can step into the water and float in it.
    • If you wish to you can merge for a short time with the water itself, becoming the medium that nourishes fish and other water creatures.
    • The water is very still, silken in texture and peaceful.
    • The sun shines into its depths, lighting the grains of sand at the bottom.
    • Let go of your cares; they are washed away by the healing power of water.
    • When you feel relaxed, come out of the water (real or imaginary)
    • Ask Phuel to seal in your emotional healing, and seal your crystal with silver and aquamarine rays; remember to thank him and Barakiel for their assistance.

  • Monday 23rd September, Equinox

earth lighting equinox enMonday 23rd September at 08.50 is the Pagan Celebration of the Autumn Equinox, marking the time of harvest festival and fulfilment of summer; since, in the Northern Hemisphere, from now on there will be more dark than light for the rest of the year. In the Southern Hemisphere it's the Spring Equinox, heralding the longer days leading to the Summer Solstice.

An equinox is an astronomical event when the plane of Earth's equator passes the center of the Sun. Equinoxes occur twice a year, around 21st March and 22nd/23rd September.

The image on the right, by Przemyslaw Blueshade Idzkiewicz (from Wikipedia), shows the illumination of Earth by Sun on the day of equinox (vernal and autumnal). It is a view to eastern-hemisphere  showing  noon  in  Central European time zone (ignoring DST) on the day of equinox.

At this point in the year, the night and day lengths are exactly equal, so it's a time of balance and a good time for introspection, look for what is good and worthwhile to become seeds for next year.

Here in the UK, followers of the Druids, Pagans, Celtic and Gaelic traditions, as well as Wicca religion, gather at megalithic stone circles such as Stonehenge (Near Salisbury, Wiltshire) and Castlerigg (Keswick, Cumbria), to celebrate and watch the equinox sunrise.

Representing balance of opposites, symbolically it's a great time to bring harmony and balance into your life.

An Equilibrium Attunement is also available each year for £55 around 20th March and 22nd September (or whenever are the annual dates of Equinox).  It's also available as a group attunement as part of the Mindful Chakra Course (£66) which is currently mid-programme. The attunement is to balance the masculine/feminine polarities via connection with the Sun and Moon personified as Raphael and Gabriel (Essene Angelology) or Ra and Tehuti (Thoth) in Egyptian Philosophies. I add an additional connection to that of our planet Earth as well as the constellations. Interestingly, the planetary symbol for Earth is the same as the symbol for the angel Melchisadec, therefore bringing an alignment to Melchisadec energy for those who feel a connection. For the March Equinox, I include the zodiac symbols of Pisces (Angel = Barakiel) and Aries (Angel = Machidiel) as this is right on the cusp (changeover is 20th/21st March). For the September Equinox, I include the Zodiac symbols of Virgo and Libra. Email for details.

By keeping aligned with the movements of our planet, communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance into their lives. Harmony Healing activities are aimed at bringing harmony and wellbeing into your life. We have our next Full Moon Unity Consciousness virtual group meditation on Sunday 28th March (£22) and our New Moon New Vision lunar cycle alignment programme starts again on 12th April and will take in Beltane plus the 555 numerology (5 means expansion) of the 5th May.

Isis JTEMSaturday 20th March is also Egyptian Festival of Pelusia, with the Egyptian Goddess Isis (Aset) working her spring magic to ensure the flooding of the Nile later in the year, thereby guaranteeing a fruitful harvest. See Joanna's live Facebook Pelusia/Facebook video.

Image of Isis (left), was created for Harmony Healing by Antonia Skelton. We do have wonderfully informative Egyptian Deity Posters, by Jacqui Taliesin El Masry, available for sale from the Harmony Shop.

According to findwords.info, in the Roman Empire, the Pelusia was a religious festival held on the 20th March to honour Isis (known as Aset to the indigenous Egyptians) and her child Harpocrates (known to the Egyptians as Heru and later called Horus by the Greeks). It would have coincided with the second day of the Quinquatria, the five-day festival dedicated to Minerva(see Blog entry for 19th March). It's not known when the tradition started because the holiday was not featured in the Roman calendar by 100 AD, but had been added by the reign of Marcus Aurelius (161–180 AD).

In the 6th Century AD, John Lydus, the Byzantine scholar, describes the festival as commemorating the mud (we would now know as the alluvial plain) caused from the flooding of the Nile. This ends hunger and drought and generates fertility.  It was thought to be represented by the birth of Harpocrates (Deity of silence, secrets and confidentiality), who in Roman art is depicted emerging from mud bearing a Cornucopia.

During the Pelusia, participants were sprinkled with water to obtain immunity from offences to the gods (impunitas periurorum) and rebirth (regeneratio). The sprinkling is thought to recreate the symbolic effect of the flooding, indicating that water from the Nile itself may have been used as a form of holy water as it was in other Isis ceremonies brought to Rome. Regeneratio was also used in connection with Baptism in Christian discourse of the time.

In Egypt, the Pelusia on 20th March, marked the beginning of the sailing season. The day was under the protection of Isis and Serapis (the Graeco-Egyptian version of Osirus combined with Apis, introduced by the Ptolemies in the 1st Century BC).

By keeping traditions, communities retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives.

If you are looking for spiritually enlightening activities during lockdown, which help to connect you with the lunar cycle, we have the nextvirtual healing circle later this month  on  Sunday 28th March, at 7.30-9.30pm (UK time = GMT), and costs £20 (+ £2 Paypal fee). During this session, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all participants will experience a degree of unity consciousness. This activity serves as a good taster of my work in general and the virtual format of our Zoom based programme.

If you would like to experience one of our spiritual offerings (meditation, reading, 1:1 healing, a Forest Bathing+ session or a full mentoring course), why not ask for a Harmony Healing gift voucherfor a birthday or other celebratory occasion?

A number of virtual courses are now ready, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

Joanna offers distant intuitive readings (past life and/or aura readings) and distant 1-2-1 healings and virtual healing circles. We also have meditations available.

  • Sunday 27th - Monday 28th September, Jewish Holy Day of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

The Adoration of the Golden Calf Picture from the Hortus deliciarum of Herrad of Landsberg 12th centuryMonday 28th September is Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) which is the Jewish day of repentance, probably the holiest and most solemn day of the year.  In Israel, it is an annual holiday. There is no public transport, no form of media communication, and all businesses and shops are closed.

It takes place on the tenth day* of Tishrei, the seventh month. In the Western Calender, this means it will occur between 14th September and 14th October.

Yom Kippur commemorates the date Moses returned from Mount Sinai following forty-days of praying for the sins of the Israelites to be forgiven for worshipping the Golden Calf. On his return from Mount Sinai, the Israelites were granted atonement. Image of The Adoration of the Golden Calf is from the Hortus deliciarum of Herrad of Landsberg (12th century).

Jewish holy days begin at sundown of the night beforehand. Thus all holiday observances begin with fasting and recitation of Kol Nidre before sundown 27th September. This is called tosephet Yom Kippur, (fasting for some of the previous day is required by Jewish law), and ends after sunset the following day.

The central premise of Yom Kippur is atonement and reconciliation. It's customary to wear white as a symbol of purity.

Yom Kippur as a complete day of rest. Therefore, these five traditions are observed:

    1. No eating and drinking
    2. No wearing of leather shoes
    3. No bathing or washing
    4. No anointing oneself with perfumes or lotions
    5. No marital relations

It is believed that this action will return the body to its original state. All healthy men over 13 years or women over 12 years are expected participate.

Yom Kippur marks the end of ten Days of Awe(a penitential period) which starts with Rosh Hashanah; the season of repentance and prayer. On Rosh Hashanah, Jewish tradition believes that everyone's fate for the coming year will be inscribed by God into the Book of Life, and on Yom Kippur, the verdict is sealed.

A traditional Yom Kippur greeting is G’mar Hatimah Tovah (may you be sealed for a good year of life).  Resource: officeholidays.com

By keeping traditions, Jewish communities can retain a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives. Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians to bring balance and harmony.

The next virtual healing circle is 7.30-9.30pm (UK time),1st October, which is the Ivy Full Moon and costs £10. Established Ancient Egyptian tradition generally credits Menes (also known as Narmer), as the king who united Upper and Lower Egypt. On the Narmer Palette the king is depicted wearing the Red Crown in one scene and the White crown in another, and thereby showing his rule over both Lands.

By keeping traditions, ancient communities in Egypt retained a sense of harmony and connection, thereby bringing balance and wellbeing into their lives. Harmony Healing utilises the philosophies of the Ancient Egyptians to bring balance and harmony.

The next virtual healing circle is 7.30-9.30pm (UK time), 1st October, which is Ivy Full Moon. During this session, which costs £10, we connect with other like-minded people and together we work through a mindful chakra balancing process using colours and etheric crystals, with the aim that all partipants will experience a degree of unity consciousness.  This activity serves as a good taster of Joanna's work in general.

Reyad Sekh Em (RSE) Egyptian Alchemy Healing Level 1 is now availale as virtual interactive training modules, details on Harmony Healing Virtual Events. Currently, due to Coronavirus, most events will be virtual hence distant readings and healings are proving popular. We don't recommend giving a reading or healing to another person, without first checking whether it would be welcomed.

  • Wednesday 22nd September, Equinox @ 20:20 and Ancient Egyptian Ritual of the Neteru of the Two Lands

Solstice image licensed by DreamtimeWednesday 22nd September at 20:20 is the Pagan Celebration of the Autumn Equinox, marking the time of harvest festival and fulfilment of summer; since, in the Northern Hemisphere, from now on there will be more dark than light for the rest of the year. An equinox is an astronomical event when the plane of Earth's equator passes the center of the Sun. Equinoxes occur twice a year, around 21 March and 22/3 September.

At this point in the year, the night and day lengths are exactly equal, so it's a time of balance and a good time for introspection, look for what is good and worthwhile to become seeds for next year.

Aligning ourselves with the heavenly bodies is very good for harmony and wellbeing.

Wednesday 22nd September is also the Ancient Egyptian Ritual of the Neteru of the Two Lands. As the exact date of the Equinox moves, they don't always coincide but often do. Co-incidence? I doubt it, the ancients knew a thing or two about the seasons and nature.

Map of Lower Egypt from WikipediaThe Two Lands, comprising of Upper & Lower Egypt, were presided over by the more successful Pharoahs. To the north was Lower Egypt where the Nile fans into the Nile Delta.
